It's so weird to read rants about bad characters from VII when there were so many poorly written characters from R1. It was rag-tag band of under-developed stereotypes. All the main characters from VII had character and traits that made them likeable.

centipede I wish that thing was actually made into a full length movie or a series. It was made by one guy, over a matter of months, who's now employed: He also did this with my favourite incarnation of the Doctor:

All the main characters from VII had character and traits that made them likeable. • Ren - embarrassing villain who impresses no one, exists for a chance of character development in future movies; • Rey - waifu fusion of Han Solo + Luke Skywalker, does everything, beats everyone (at least she's enjoyable to watch); • Finn - funny guy; • Poe - some guy who apparently shows up in the movie; The four of them identifiable by monosyllables so kids can remember their names.

I do have liked Ep. VII a lot (better than the prequels), but I also agree with spidershinobi that the characters are just... "meh" all around. They're not terrible, as none of them are as badly written as Anakin/Binks/Qui Gon Jin/Darth Maul (c'mon, he may look cool but gets no lines), but they're just uninspired. Rey is the very definition of a Mary Sue, being almost a fanfic character. I think Finn would be much better if he got a bit more focus and a better name (his name just reminds me of all the better characters from Adventure Time), as he is more conflicted and has an actually interesting backstory. I also only remember of Poe as someone who was there. I didn't mind Kylo Ren though; I think he was ok as a vilain, though the guy needs more development indeed.

Preferably he's just already died between the two movies and they just explain it away as some freak accident in the opening crawl. Even though you hate Kylo Ren, you would have to agree that that would be really shitty writing. I think it could be done. Want me to take a shot at it? If we're completely honest and rank the sith in the 7 films from best to worst, Kylo always has to be at the bottom. And if you start adding other bad guys (Boba Fett, Jabba the Hutt, Grand Mof Tarkin, General Grievous, literally anyone) ... He's still on bottom. I say we kill him.

All the main characters from VII had character and traits that made them likeable. Bashing Ep 7 doesn't mean I liked R1 more. To be clear, I don't hate the movies though. They're alright, but not great. As a Star Wars fan, it's sad. Everyone was busting George Lucas' balls, saying what a terrible job he was doing with the Prequels. So you'd figure now with these big-shot directors and Disney behind it they'd be able to make the OT - quality movies we've been waiting for. I guess making Star Wars isn't as easy as everyone thought.

You mean that final duel where he's struggling to beat two kids who've never held a lightsaber in their lives? Yeah, that was really cool. Maybe he should stick to throwing childish tantrums.

The original (alternate) version of Star Wars!!! Worth watching if only for a glimpses of the new original Princess Leia alone. Nothing like Carrie Fisher. *spill**spill* + Oh, Annikin.. And mah gawd Solo! You've become so awesome looking!

That's... different. While I genuinely think I wouldn't have enjoyed the series if it was that, it could have worked better as episode 7 if they wanted to make something interesting instead of what we got.
