After the ports of Valkyria Chronicles and Bayonetta, Sega FINALLY decided to port Vanquish! Cue awesome rocking buttkicking trailer:
In my eyes, this is the Sega/Platinum game that benefits the most from a pc port, as it's a shooter (so the K&M controls will be an improvement) and it had a lousy framerate that made aiming not so great in the original. Plus, the original graphics were full of stuff happening (lots and lots of explosions), so the low resolution sometimes made things harder to see than they should.
Going by previous pc ports by Sega, I completely trust this one - all my Sega PC games run perfectly and even have their fair share of graphic options, and since this one uses a similar if not the same engine from Bayonetta (both being developed by Platinum), it has a good chance of being a good port.
I've already bought it, that's how much I want to support Platinum/Sega games on pc - plus, it gives a 25% discount for Bayonetta owners and is already a cheap game, being a late port and all.

Congrats! Does Steam support 100% achievements the same way Xbox does? I know it has achievements, but are they the same? I ask because for the most part achievements and trophies are exactly the same between Xbox and PlayStation. I was wondering if Steam is the same. If that's the case this is one of those games that can give pride to anyone reaching 100% in achievements. It is tough to do that though.

stratogustav - Yes, the achievements are usually the same (by the way, I'm very close to getting every Bayonetta achievement again on my pc copy!). Maybe this will give me an incentive to try getting achievements for Vanquish, as the M&K controls will probably make the harder modes less hair-pulling.

I believe other than the Viewtiful Joe games, MadWorld, and Bayonetta 2, every Platinum game has a Platinum all the way to NieR Automata at this point. I envy anyone that has them all.

I played this on the PS3 a long time ago since I was really into 3rd person shooters at the time. Never went for a 2nd playthrough for some reason, even though it's one of those games that lends itself to a 2nd playthrough. I'm tempted to play through it again but I'm not sure if I should go looking for my old disk or buy it again on PC. Can anyone here confirm the quality of the port if they happen to have it on PC?

Bah! Still better on consoles! (just insert and play on yer comfy couch, no display fidgeting required )Nah, older games like this require absolutely no fidgeting - you just choose "high settings" and there you go, most pcs will run this with everything on maximum. Now that I think about it, I barely have to ever mess with settings nowadays: for people with nVidia cards, you use a small program called GeForce Experience that will automatically set most new games according to your memory/cpu/gpu. But then, if you are comfy playing a Platinum game, you're playing it wrong! winnersdontusedrugs - I've just played it. I was going to just test for five minutes and then, one hour later, here I am. The pc port is spot on, with everything working flawlessly, and I can confirm the game is still a blast: SO MUCH BETTER without any slowdowns and precise aim! This is definitely the Sega/Platinum game that benefitted the most from the upgrade: it's nice that Bayonetta now looks even better, but the gameplay is mostly the same; Vanquish, though, is even more fun to play now. Here is a Digital Foundry video detailing what was upgraded:

CervantesDanka, I'll pick this one up then. I didn't have a problem using a controller to aim but it'll be nice to use KB+M for a change.

winnersdontusedrugs and everyone else interested in this port, just a heads up: it was discovered that the game is slightly more dificult on pc due to a bug that ties the damage to the framerate. Basically, you die in fewer hits than in the console versions (so pc normal is somewhere between normal-hard on consoles). I didn't notice it during my hour playing it, but then, the improved aim/framerate may have offset the increased difficulty to me. Here is an article with some gifs demonstrating it.So, until Sega fixes it (it took them around a month to fix Bayonetta's bugs), I don't recommend playing it on hard! I tested it on hard and still had a good time, though, so it's definitely not a game breaker.

It could just be how the game's coded, since some devs like to tie things to the framerate. I've been playing it on hard as well and haven't had that much trouble either. What actually has me concerned is how the game is 18.5 gigs, but the actual game is only a few gigs while 15-16 gigs are all pre-rendered cutscenes. That's probably the worst I've seen for any videogame holy fuck.

The video size is a problem, though. Metal Gear Rising is even worse, it's aggravating. I would much prefer a normal quality video for a smaller game size.

Cervantes The pre-rendered cutscenes look like shit anyway and look like they use ingame assets to boot. I don't understand why they couldn't have made ingame cutscenes that aren't pre-rendered. Better yet, they could've not made the same mistake that every other shooter from the era fell for, shoving in cutscenes every 5 seconds.

winnersdontusedrugs - Interestingly, Bayonetta's cutscenes are rendered in realtime and look better, with the advantage of showing Bayonetta with the correct clothes you've chosen. I can't understand why Platinum went for inferior pre-rendered scenes in Vanquish and MGR.
