General Xbox Thread

I would be interested in how many people are still playing those consoles.  The Wii probably doesn't have high numbers on that.  Now, if you go by how many people who had a Wii and then bought a Wii U, it lost big time.

Yeah, for the reasons I stated before the Wii is culturally more significant and won by a large margin.

From 2006 up to sometime in 2009 both the 360 and PS3 had the worst rates ever in terms of sales, any console gen could beat those sales rates. However they got smart and released the Kinect and The Move and changed everything for them.

Both technologies failed miserably respectively because despite the advancements in technology their software developers did not have the talent to make a worthwhile library, and in the Kinect side sometimes the motion controls didn't even work properly.

However despite the massive failure, both technologies managed to put both consoles respectively back in the eyes of consumers as something fresh that was just starting and that represented a long term investment, despite that in reality they had been out for over 3 years. So the console units sales skyrocketed for both consoles and game makers responded accordingly by catching up and releasing a compelling library.

At this point the Wii suddenly stopped receiving significant first party support and audiences moved onto other systems. It doesn't take away the fact that for almost 3 years the beast that was Nintendo was destroying and no one had a real chance against it.

Despite the big failure of the PS3 at launch, the Move refreshment into the eyes of the consumer brought their attention to their new title exclusives, that kept the system afloat for the next 4 years and from the last position made them reach second. One of the most admirable come backs in business history, if not the most admirable.

The 360 was a close third, but they were never completely transparent with their numbers and a lot of sales were rounded up big time. They likely lost by millions by the number gap is usually reduced by fanboys.

The truth is the 360 may never had a chance to defeat the Wii, but it did have the chance to equal or even defeat the PS3, what hold the 360 back was the so called red ring of death that took away the confidence of some consumers for the product. Microsoft took a big lost trying to fix it, and they managed to save the brand, but the damage was already done nevertheless.

What? Since when saying the 360 was one of the best consoles of all time we like it or not is shitting on the Xbox brand? Where is all this delusion and lack of objectivity comes from?

I get that you are bitter that the Wii was the most significant console in terms of culture and sales, but coming out to say I'm shitting on the Xbox brand after saying all those nice things about it is utterly ridiculous and make you look very unstable.

Chill out, we get that you hate Nintendo, there is no need to put your defenses up. Hating is the worse kind if fanboyism, don't be that guy.

I was talking about sales. Wikipedia is a site anyone can contribute and change things around. Usually they are close enough, but with so many fanboys it is unreliable when it comes to close calls.

For example for the longest time we knew that the Nintendo DS was the most successful dedicated gaming system of all time, but in the last 2 years that throne has suddenly changed to the PS2 by a large margin.

Coincidence? I doubt it. That has been purposely changed and now there is no way back.
