What is the best arcade still available in your neck of the woods? I think it would be rather cool to set up a guide here for fellow travelers. We have members from around the world, so I'm really interested in what is available to our fellow friends at the Wind Squid Pub. In my tiny portion of the planet, I would like to nominate The Galloping Ghost. www.gallopingghostarcade.com/

Right now its the MAME cab I have collecting dust in a storage locker since the midwestern United States is devoid of arcades.

cobretti That's so sweet you have one, i had been dreaming in getting at least a sit down Rec Room Masters cabinet for quite some time already, considering almost my entire PS3 collection are games that required an arcade sticks. I need to just man up and do the investment but I keep putting it aside for later.

I need to just man up and do the investment but I keep putting it aside for later. I know the feeling of putting something off like that. When I bought mine, it was a deal that was too good to pass up, so I had to jump on it. I was eyeing up one of those sit down cabs Rec Room Masters sells at one point, but as an American, I always associate giant wood stand up cabs as the only truly authentic arcade cabinet, so I went with that. A word of advice if you do get one. DO NOT get the X-Arcade tank stick. They are total junk and you'll have to buy separate adapters to get it to run on a modern console. I would either buy an off the self Mad Catz/Hori stick, or if you want a fun project, get something like a PS360 of an MC Cthulhu board and some sticks and buttons and make a control panel.

cobretti Oh hell no, I'm a huge hater of the tank sticks. I'm actually in love with the Rec Room Masters original arcade stick because they use original JLF joysticks and Sanwa Denshi buttons. So when I hear people complaining about how sensitive the buttons are, it makes me want it even more because that's what builds your skill level. I love Centipede, Millipede, and Missile Command, but aesthetically I'm not a fan of the trackball either, so to me this one they have is perfection, specially in that color, it looks so nice: I also understand where you are coming from with the big cabinets, I also grew up in the West so I also considered the same thing. Rec Room Masters also have big stand up cabinets, but they usually promote those with either the tank sticks or the trackball controllers, and I don't like those. But something tells me this controller above would fit in those nicely as well. I also want the coin door with the red LED light just for the looks alone, even if I can't get it to work with my PS3. Arcade modern games like Guilty Gear, Under Defeat, Raiden, and BlazBlue are awesome, so I'm really looking forward for this. The only thing that has topped me from buying this is that it won't work with Mortal Kombat X, Street Fighter V, Tekken 7, and The King Of Fighters XIV because it doesn't have PS4 support, only PS3.

That is a slick looking controllerl, and if it has Sanwa sticks and buttons, then you're set. Mortal Kombat X uses the Lab Zero controller driver so PS3 controllers work out of the box. If the other games don't use the driver, then you can get a pair of Brook converters, or get the Brook PCB boards so the controllers work with everything.

cobretti So you are saying I will be able to make this ^^^^^ controller compatible with those PS4 games? You have no idea how amazing that sounds to me.

cobretti So you are saying I will be able to make this ^^^^^ controller compatible with those PS4 games? You have no idea how amazing that sounds to me. You can! You wouldn't need it for MKX or Ultra Street Fighter IV since they support PS3 controllers out of the box. One caveat is Sony loves messing with the Brook converters with firmware updates. Brook is pretty good about getting firmware updates out in a couple of days so they work again, however. Just be prepared for little periods of friction if you do get them.

cobretti That's so awesome, I don't mind doing the updates, in that case I'll get this package that already comes with the coin door: All I'll need after that is to find a decent 32 inch passive 3D TV which is quite hard to find, I want one for games like Tekken Tag Tournament II and Mortal Kombat (IX). I also want some nice cabinet artwork on it, kind of like this one and others I've seen on their website: The cabinets do look really nice after installation, I can tell by the reviews:

Damn. Those are pretty slick. I'd almost trade my giant cab for one of these just so I don't have to deal with how heavy a real cab is.

Sorry, I don't have any pictures of it right now and It'll be hard to get to since its shoved in the back of a storage locker. Once I get a house and move into it, I'll get some pictures up. I can describe it. It used to be an older Silver Strike Bowling cab, with the old tube monitor still in it. The control panel is black, with two Crown K-sticks and Sanwa buttons in an Astro City player two layout. It also has an X-Arcade trackball, but I could never get it configured in MAME for some reason. Imagine this, but with the side panels white and the described panel.

cobretti That's badass, a real cabinet like those costs at least 2K. When you get the opportunity to set it in your place I would recommend the Hyperspin software people have, it looks pretty sweet, it goes all the way to Taito Type X2, it even carries consoles and handhelds. I imagine it must take time to set up one, but it looks totally worth it. My real dream is to have an actual Vewlix cabinet, exactly like this one, with the Sanwa Denshi buttons and the Seimitsu light rings for the buttons and the Seimitsu ball tops for the joysticks. The problem is it would cost me about 4K with shipment, taxes, transportation from the port, console adapters, etc.. It is just too much money. A Rec Room Masters cabinet would have to do it for me.instead.
