I'm really worried, because I just bid on a physical copy of Crysis and only after realized it has the exact same "Games for Windows" logo on the top of the box as Halo 2 PC does, the latter being a game that uses the dreaded Games for Windows Live program.
Can anyone confirm this? And if it does in fact use GFWL, is there a workaround?

Worst comes to worst you can either download a crack for it or redeem the serial code in Origin (after you make an account I assume) and get a free digital non-GWFL copy that way.

Crack is some sort of file you put inside installed paid software archives to make them usuable for free. I haven't heard that word in ages. It brings me back memories from High School. I remember getting them for burning software, video editing software, and even photoshop.

It doesn't use GFWL, but it does use Securom, a DRM method that, as I understand, isn't compatible with Windows 10 (an actual good thing, as it's an intrusive DRM that installs itself to your pc). So, if it's possible to redeem its serial on Origin for a digital copy, that might be your best bet; otherwise, you might need a crack, as winnersdontusedrugs has said. |

Oh dear..... This is a problem, because I ultimately ended up winning the auction and have already paid for it (thankfully it didn't cost much; only around $4.50). I have absolutely no idea how to go about the second option you suggested, Cervantes, and I've heard you complain about the Origin service, so I probably don't want to go with that. It's hard to believe such a popular and legendary PC game like Crysis isn't outright compatible with the newest version of Windows. I should've just stuck with Far Cry. |

I would try the Origin option anyway (here is how to do it). Origin isn't that terrible; my problem with it was more related with the way Mirror's Edge: Catalyst save system works (its cloud save on Origin is useless). Besides that, I just find it somewhat clunky in comparison to Steam, which already isn't perfect either. |

Cervantes Have you tried playing any other games using Origin? Honestly it doesn't really sound like something I want to use anyway, since my internet connection is crappy and unreliable, and I assume a connection is required to save games and such?

Spirit Bomb - I only used Origin for one game, so I don't know enough to talk about it, but as with Steam, an internet connection is not required for single player games, only if you want to use cloud saves and such. I hope you can just intall the disc and not have to deal with any of it. Keep us informed if it works or not!

Cervantes winnersdontusedrugs Well damn. It turns out the disc is outright unreadable. I put it in my computer twice and both times it failed to even read the disc. Guess I'll have to go with plan B and redeem my copy on Origin using the serial code, except I have no idea what the serial code looks like or where it's located on my game... do you guys know?

Cervantes If I bought Crysis off of GOG.com, would I still be unable to play it? I ask because I just tried to redeem my copy on Origin, but it wouldn't accept my serial code (I guess it's already in use).

It seems you got a bad seller there: scratched disc and already redeemed key (probably the reason why he sold the disc in the first place). That sucks.
The GOG version should work; I gave a quick look at their forums and it seems people have been running it with no problems on Windows 10 (one or another person reported a problem but could solve it with no hassle).

Cervantes I honestly am not sure why the disc doesn't run; it has absolutely no scratches, but my computer won't read it. I know there are other factors besides scratches that can affect disc performance. It's just the matter of finding out what's wrong, and then fixing it somehow. Thanks though. If I have any other questions about the game, could I ask you about it?

Of course you can, mate! Just keep in mind my Crysis copy is from Steam (the GOG version is actually better, as it comes with the latest patches and with x64 compatibility) and I haven't played it in two years or so, so I don't remember if I even tested it on W10.
By the way, the Square-Enix sale at GOG really does have some good picks, I noticed you mentioned their Thief titles there. Too bad I already have most of the SE games that interest me, including the Thief games; but maybe I could get Soul Reaver this time. Do you intend to buy any of their games in this sale?
EDIT: The Ys games are on sale too; I already have all of them. Highly recommended.

Cervantes Nah, I don't plan on buying any games soon, but I do still check GOG from time to time merely for curiosity's sake. I've heard nothing but good things about the site, and they have a pretty good selection.
