I have an urgent question for people here who have played Far Cry (1) for PC that NEEDS answering. Let me start by saying this:
So as most of you know, I recently bought a copy of Far Cry online and it's going to arrive in the mail any day now. Just recently, however, I stumbled upon a humorous video by popular Youtuber videogamedunkey that basically just highlights all of the game's AI & gameplay quirks. However, one of these quirks was a serious point of concern for me: the "enemies shooting you through walls" bug, which, from what I hear, was introduced through a patch but never fixed. Here is the video I am talking about, please watch it for yourself and pay attention to the part where he highlights the bug:
Has anyone here encountered this bug?? This is the kind of bug that would literally ruin the game for me, and I've heard that you need to download a fan-made patch in order to fix it, which is the last thing I'd want to do.
There's a top comment in the video's comment section that talks about the bug and describes it in a nutshell, but there seemed to be conflicting information about it, and I couldn't find an article on it (the bug) on the official Far Cry wiki, so I'm in desperate need of information on this.
Help please!

Nah, I never ran into any bugs, you can rest easy. But let me just state that you should not be afraid of fan patches. See, fan patches are usually the only way of getting older games to run well on current systems (as the developers may have shutdown or just not care updating the game anymore). Fan patches may also fix various game-breaking bugs (I can't even imagine playing Bethesda games without mods/fan patches) and do a lot of very important improvements, like running 30 fps games at 60 fps (Dark Souls is the most famous example). And, as always, never forget to check on PC Gaming Wiki. There, they point out to a 64-bit patch that will make Far Cry run smoother, for example.

Cervantes Thanks mate, but it looks like I've run into yet ANOTHER problem... I received my copy of Far Cry in the mail today and installed it just a couple of hours ago. However, it won't let me access the single player campaign/main game! The map editor seems to work, and it let me adjust the video/audio options in a separate menu, but when I try to start up the actual game, it says "Access denied"
"Please log in with administrator privileges and try again."
So I tried right clicking the short cut and selected the Run as administrator option, which led to a little window that asks Would you like this game to make changes to your PC? (which is something it always asks whenever I try to run a new game for the first time), but regardless of whether I click yes or no, nothing happens. :/ This seems like it would be an easy problem to fix, but I have no clue what to do in order to get this damn game running. Did this happen to you at all when you tried to play it? Do you have any idea how to fix the problem?

MeleeMonk - I've found this thread about your problem. They give an easy solution: 1. Install FarCry1 to C:\ not to C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Farcry... Important! 2. Install the "farcry_amd64upgrade_xx.exe" (xx depends of the language) Update. 3. Install the "farcry_amd64_ecu.exe" Update. 4. Start Farcry (64bit) with Admin Rights. No compatibility mode is needed. Try it and tell us! I've never tried reinstalling my Far Cry copy on W10 (I think last time I did it was on W7), so I didn't know about this problem. I'll keep it in mind if I ever want to install it again - though I would probably just buy a new copy in a Steam sale anyway.

Cervantes Thanks! This just makes me wish I had Windows XP and not Windows 10. -_- But I'll give it a try.

UPDATE: So, I reinstalled Far Cry just to C:\, but it still won't play even with compatibility settings. That leads me to my problem: where do I go to find these updates? I think this might be more trouble than it's worth, since I read on that forum thread that there's a risk of getting viruses when looking for the right website to find these... .exe files. I've never had to do this before so I'm in desperate need of help. Perhaps you know?

MeleeMonk - Yep, if they are zip files, go with WinRAR. I haven't installed/played/updated Far Cry in a decade, so I can't help much with how to install its patches, but it must be simple enough. The post you linked to suggests going the no-cd crack route, but I won't suggest it for you since you're worried about viruses. Better to try the legit way with those patches first.

Oh, so you've never played Far Cry using Windows 10? What did you use? XP?

UPDATE: So I downloaded WinRAR and saw that there is a file named "mods" (which is completely empty) under Far Cry in C:\, so I figured that's where Crytek intended mods to be installed to, so I extracted the files to that location, then tried to start the game up, but it still didn't work. :/ I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I figure I'd just let you know that.
