I'm thinking about getting me a Sega Saturn. This system im looking at has been modded to be region free and will play any games from any region. Also comes with a modchip installed and fully supports ram carts and cartridge save functions. Total price $165 plus $15 extra for custom ram to ensure save files are not deleted when the Saturn battery dies. Thinking about paying the extra $15 because I feel it will be worth it in the long run.
I know the prices for Saturn games are through the roof. At least for North American copies of the games. I'm thinking about going the import route for my games but also trying to get deals on Saturn games online. I see a lot of Saturn games don't need to be imported to North America since a lot of them are available from u.s. sellers on ebay. I'm definitely going to get the North American copy of guardian heroes because I really want that one.
I'm not completely sold on buying this system yet since I might spend money on something else. This is probably going to be the last old console I buy. I got too many other systems to play. I have a ps2, GameCube, ps3, nes, a dreamcast and a gaming PC and the right TV to play all these old systems on. Just want a Saturn to complete it and that will be it.

The Saturn is one the best systems out there in my opinion. But going for only one more console is a lie I have stopped telling myself at this point. There are always games on another console I want to play.

They're pretty cheap though. Easily replaced.

Nah, I guess the architecture of the Sega CD + Mega Drive combo would be too complex to be emulated by a console from that era. Also, only now people are getting better at hacking the Saturn; just notice the almost complete absence of homebrews for it. About the initial question: if you're thinking about getting it, you're doing it wrong and Segata Sanshiro will punch your face, the same goes to whoever has a Saturn in storage. The right way to do it is to have a Saturn and play it all the time. It's an amazing console. If you have a way to play imports (like the modchiped console you're looking to buy), go for it: their boxes are smaller, the manuals are in color and include a lot of extras (illustrations, maps, posters) lacking in the US versions. But keep in mind this is only useful for games that have no language barrier, like shmups, 2d platformers, fighting and arcade-style games. A lot of japanese games also have english text, like Sonic Jam and most (if not all) Sega arcade ports. Considering how their prices are lower, it's better to look for them. But for RPGs, there's no way around (I got some of them because I intend to learn japanese, but that'll take years).
