I remember hearing about this years ago, but I haven't seen anything as thorough as this. I found this very interesting.

There was a year in my youth when I was a big Michael Jackson fan. 9 year old me would have loved this...

I think it would be great if Sega released more information about this. It is a shame he didn't work with them on the Sega CD games, because he wouldn't have had the limitations that ultimately led him to get frustrated with the system.

I totally remember seeing that Michael Jackson Genesis game on a Sega magazine. I always thought the game looked cool. It sucks they didn't gave him credit for Sonic.
But I think Nintendo did the same to him. I don't recall him getting credit for Majora's Mask and he totally deserved it as that was pretty much the culmination of the game.

It's for the best that grunge teens didn't see 'featuring soundtrack by Michael Jackson!' on the cover in 1994. The world was pretty jaded back then, not like today with our internet.

Well, to be fair, he did say that they started talks with him when Sonic 2 came out. MJ was pretty popular in 1992.

Michael was still a big fucking deal in the early to mid 90's when Sonic 3 came out. Even then, when a new video premiered on MTV, they managed to make it a much watch event. And it would have been a huge coup for Sega to be able to credit the soundtrack to Michael Jackson. And I know the Jackson people and Al Nilsen have said different, but I tend to believe that the MJ soundtrack was pulled because of the child molestation accusations. Michael was a huge Sega fan, and he had to be aware of the limited capabilities of the Genesis sound chip. That excuse doesn't hold water for me.

Meh, considering Michael Jackscum only composed the Carnival Night Zones, his contributions to the game ultimate meant jack in the grand scheme of things, since EVERYTHING about Sonic 3 was ABSOLUTE PERFECTION. Jackscum didn't make Sonic 3 great, Sega did. The game would've still been perfect with his pitifully small contributions.
