As of the time of this writing, Fire Emblem Warriors is soon to be released in Japan - about 2 months from now - and it's definitely the game I'm the most hyped for at the moment. For me this is 100% Nintendo's "killer app" of 2017 for the Switch; for a lot of people that would Mario Kart, or Smash Bros., for Nintendo itself it is Breath of the Wild, but for me this is the one. As a bonus, here's the latest interview with the developers: nintendoeverything.com/fire-emblem-warriors-devs-chrom-was-made-first-lissa-lucina-frederick-robin-talk-much-more/While I'm not too happy about the character roster yet, I like that the first one they developed was Chrom, it means they have good heads above their shoulders!

I wish it more older characters, but I'm still looking forward to it. It's still supposed to release west this year I believe.

I'll definitely get this one. I love Warriors games, and I will finally enjoy a Fire Emblem game as well. It's crazy I have the Smash Amiibo, but not a single game. I will finally have a perspective on Fire Emblem characters and its abilities.

I can definitely understand not having gotten into Fire Emblem yet because of how confusing the fanbase can be when it comes to recommending. But we can do that after you play this game, which is looking even better now because my favorite character was finally announced to be in Warriors! Now, considering what has been said about trying to keep the weapon types balanced and how not much had been revealed, I believe this game will feature a pretty good character roster. I'm even surprised how they made me want to play as Frederick, a character who looks rather generic, just because of the gameplay that has been shown previously. Edit: gameplay of the featured characters looks fantastic.

I'm a bit disappointed that it seems to share a basic plot with Fire Emblem Heroes (mysterious prince and princess need help from legendary warriors of various worlds and times), but I don't really expect a deep plot from musou games, so I'm sure I'll still enjoy it.

Well, it is Fire Emblem. We shouldn't expect good stories.

The game has been out in Japan since September, so at this point there's been enough information released about its main features. Another thing that helps is that the english version of the official site has been updated, so if you want to know the full character roster at release date you can just go there and click on the "Heroes" tab; and if you want to know about the season pass consisting of 3 DLC packs to be released mostly by next year you can click on the "DLC" tab.
One additional piece of information that's absent from the site is that there are a bunch of unplayable characters who may or may not be part of the DLC packs, but data mining has suggested that the devs simply ran out of time, they're Oboro, Odin, Niles, and Navarre. So here's hoping they just get small patches as playable characters instead because most of those 4 look super boring.
Now I'd like to express what I think about the reveals on the full game. I'm hyped but this roster sounds ugly. Somehow 2 of my favorite characters got in - Camilla and Anna - but I feel they missed the opportunity to have a more weapon-balanced roster even though post release it has come to light that weapon triangle disadvantages aren't as relevant in this game as in Fire Emblem Heroes, for example. The absences that stick out the most are those of lance riders, the most common playable spear user in a regular Fire Emblem, and armored "knights", although their inclusion might be certain due to generic officers sometimes being members of this class. Additionally, the surprising lack of villain characters and the fact that the ones present are all mages make me think either budget or deadlines were unfavorable... Roster issues aside, the response to this game has been overwhelmingly positive among those who actually played it, and from Q&A boards I gathered that: - apparently this isn't a 1-man-army deal, but rather a 4 or 8-men-army one, because players are encouraged to direct allied AI units to perform desired actions like you would in Bladestorm or a team based game; - there are 4 difficulty settings, Normal being the second one but mostly understood as easy enough for anyone; - Hystory mode is just the Adventure Mode from Hyrule Warriors, but less complicated and better spread among different scenarios; - Bonus damage against character types seem to be devastating, while weapon triangle seems to grant super armor and additional chance of stunning for the advantageous side.
So, yeah, in the end I'm still hyped even if the roster is disappointing.
