Here it is, in all its glory: Half-Life 3/Episode 3 plotTo anyone who doesn't know, Marc Laidlaw was the main writer of the Half-Life series, he left Valve more than a year ago. In the story posted on his website, he switched the genders of the characters around (hello, Dr. Gertrude Fremont), but, besides that, everything aligns perfectly with how Episode 2 ended. I have to say, this looks... really good, actually. I would have loved to see the story develops like that. Sadly, this also means that HL3 is truly dead (otherwise, I don't think Valve would let him post this story online). The last paragraph is almost a commentary on Valve itself: Sad stuff. Luckily, I'm sure some mod teams might be planning right now how to bring this abandoned version of HL3 to life, which might have been Laidlaw's intention, going by his "I expect you know better than I the appropriate course of action, and I leave you to it" sentence. Imagine if this becomes the next project from the Black Mesa developers? I would play it. EDIT: I was going to post this in the PC thread, but as HL2 and its episodes were released on Microsoft and Sony consoles, I thought it was more appropriate to leave it here - also, this news is important enough to go in the main discussion.

I haven't read it yet, but I know the Half Life fans are really upset about it. I can relate honestly, since Nintendo has done the same thing to Melee fans (and F-Zero fans and, formally, Metroid fans). I myself am a casual fan of Half Life, having only played the second game but enjoyed it greatly.
I imagine Half Life fans would be unsatisfied if 3 didn't have a state of the art graphics & physics engine, so maybe that has something to do with it? They could be working on a new engine, although I've heard reports that Valve currently isn't developing any games. :/ I'm not sure what to think.
Wasn't Half Life 2's development kept a secret though? Maybe Valve has just been covering up the operation, at least I like to think that's the case...

I still have to play anything by Valve, all I know is that Steam is very short on first party stuff.

Funny, I still haven't played anything by Valve either. I have heard that this revelation resulted in some form of scandle, but somehow I feel that the amount of people affected by this is lower than what I assumed...

I have heard that this revelation resulted in some form of scandle, but somehow I feel that the amount of people affected by this is lower than what I assumed... I thought there would be a much bigger turmoil around it, but it seems I also made a wrong assumption. My guess is that the interest in a Half-Life sequel has waned, which is a sad destiny for what was such an important series on PC. But then, so many things happened since Episode 2's release ten years ago that Half-Life just couldn't retain its relevancy.
