I played this game quite a bit in my youth. It was alright, probably above average for a movie based game.
What really caught my attention in this review was Mark's unrelenting hate of the prequels. I don't think I have ever met someone who hated the prequels more than Mark. He literally had nothing nice to say about them, other than the fact that they had good music. I'm not terribly fond of the prequels personally, but I think they deserve at least some more credit than he gave them. At the very least, the art direction and special effects deserve praise too.
With that said, I do enjoy hearing his opinion on these films and thought it was kind of funny to hear him speak so ill of something (he usually stays very positive in his reviews). I have a feeling that Mark might be a bit of a film snob, based on his scathing opinions of other films (like Robocop 2 and Moonraker), but whether that's a good or a bad thing is subjective.

This game had a really fun versus mode. It's still fun today.

John Williams is the only good thing about those movies.Really? Because as a hobbyist artist I find these films fascinating. I own the official The Art Of Star Wars book for The Phantom Menace, and the art direction is, in my opinion, every bit as good as the original trilogy's. I would think an artist like Mark would show more appreciation for that aspect of these films. And most of the Star Wars fans I've encountered seem to agree that the prequel films are flawed but still decent overall. Of all the prequel haters I've encountered, Mark is by far one of the most adamant & vocal ones. That's just my observation. |
