Nintendo, which is on a roll with its ‘Classic Edition’ series of plug-and-play gaming systems, could have even bigger plans for 2018. The company, whose SNES Classic Edition is already selling out at stores nationwide, has reportedly filed a trademark application in Japan for a system that seems to indicate the Game Boy will be getting the Classic Edition treatment as well. Cool! What do you think? Will it be a Plug-and-Play for the TV, or a real handheld with its own screen?

Why release all these plug-and-plays? Why not just release compilation discs and controllers? It's all just emulation nevertheless. I'm betting this will be in low supplies too.

Nintendo doesn't have disc drives in their consoles, Balder. This is the only logical solution.

I can't wait to not get this just like I can't get the Snes mini and I couldn't get the nes mini.
and it definitely should be a handheld with HDMI out

Although I like the thought of this, I don't see the market for it. The Game Boy is dirt cheap these days. So are the games. I fail to see the need for this.

Slightly off of your comment, I wish Sega would make a (good) "Genesis Classic Edition" with add-on Sega CD Classic and 32X Classic. Little mini versions that bolt on to each other.

Hopefully the Game Boy Classic does well and Sega and Atari make Game Gear and Lynx Classics to compete. But good ones.

I shared the link because I think it's cool and it's a product I'd like to have. I don't remember asking your permission. Oh, Balder can I please like this thing please? Didn't happen. So I'm buying three of them and giving two away to my friends and guess what? You're not getting one because you're not my friend anymore. And another thing, compilation discs are lame! This is the future, Balder! We have miniaturized consoles now, Balder! Get with the times!

That is insane, but you can buy a refurbished Game Boy Color for around $30. I've seen original Game Boys at flea markets for $5.

I'm just saying that miniatyrized consoles are unpractical, and it's stupid that they are making them in few quantities when people want one. And Nintendo isn't the only one doing it. Commodore, Atari and Sega are doing it too (except for the few quantities). It's cool to have one, but when there exist 8 Atari Flashbacks and Nintendo is going the same route; people will end up with a bunch of compilation consoles taking up space. Me a friend? I think you have confused me with someone else.

I think you have confused me with someone else. The Nintendo licensed ones are a notch above the other crap which have sound issues and hit or miss menus. The new one has a great save state/rewind feature where you can seamlessly jump in and out of each game where you left off. Most importantly they display nicely and the boxes are next to identical to the originals. They also take up considerably less space than the original consoles and their cables and plug in using standard HDMI and USB power.
