Oh look. A good game suggestion. No lame jokes or try-hard insults. Just a game that people have played before. How refreshing. This Week: Ghouls 'n Ghosts Chosen by: Dan E. Kool Year: 1988 Developer: Capcom Publisher: Capcom Platforms: Arcade, Amiga, Genesis, Atari ST, Sharp X68000, PC Engine SuperGrafx, Commodore 64, Master System, ZX Spectrum, and many more! Send suggestions to Balder before he wastes another week on a game no one has played before.

2 hard 4 me.
I don't think this series ever clicked with me, and I never remember Ghousls'n Ghosts when discussing great 16-bit platformers. But it IS a very competent game on all accounts, I think it's just not my thing (for platformers of that era, I prefer the ones that give you a lot of freedom of movement, like the Mega Man X and Sonic games). So, to me, it ends up being an "ok" game.
That said, Demon's Crest looks awesome and I remember liking it, so there's that.

Th first time I saw this was in a cabinet, just outside a fish and chip shop when I was 8.
I got his game as a bonus on a Street Fighter 2 plug-n-play console. I beat it once on 'Practice' difficulty. It was hard on PRACTICE difficulty.

Absolutely love this series. I've spent the most time with Ghouls n' Ghosts on Genesis, but I also have played Ghosts n Goblins on NES and Super Ghouls N Ghosts at length, and greatly enjoyed all of them. Such a wonderfully dark and macabre series, with a dash of humor that makes it so memorably unique. My only complaint with the series is that I don't like the gimmick of having to play through the games twice to get an ending.
The Maximo games are also very good, but the art direction in said games is a little too cartoony for my tastes, which is why I prefer Ghouls.

Cervantes the thing is that it is not a platformer, I do agree with the notion that this is a puzzle game, if you approach it as such, with the patience required, it is very addictive. Try the Capcom Arcade Cabinet version, it is really good.

Wow, this game got a mixed reception. I guess that's to be expected. It's not the easiest game.
I'm not good at this game. There are some who have memorized every trap and enemy and can just fly right through the levels, but I'm not one of them. I still enjoy it, though. I love the music and atmosphere. It's tough and unforgiving, but I try to play through it every Halloween... On practice mode... I guess I like it for the same reasons people rave about Cuphead. It's almost impossible (for me), but only almost. So I keep coming back to try again.

I find it ok. To be honest, the popularity is undeserved. The difficulty level was just a sign of how unpolished it was, and both of its spin-offs were several times better and more engaging, with the first one even being not very arcade like.
