Here's my review of Dragon Warrior for the NES. Perhaps a bit too archaic to recommend to people now, but I had a great time with this one.

Wizardry is the father of the JRPG.
With that out of the way, Dragon Quest is a chore even with Game Genie ramping up the experience and gold dropped by slimes and such, but I remember being absolutely fascinated with it when I first played it... but I had seen Zelda before that, and that completely blew my mind. Nevertheless, I am fond of it, despite not being super-keen on actually playing it.

Dragon Warrior/Quest isn't something I go back to a lot, but it was my introduction to JRPGs. Thanks to the Nintendo Power subscription giveaway, I think this was true for a lot of NES warriors. I remember paging through its instructions quite a lot.
These days, for someone wanting to check out Dragon Quest 1-3, I would really recommend the Android/iOS versions.
Anyone else think that Square Enix missed out on a great chance by naming the DQ Musou game "Dragon Quest Heroes" instead of "Dragon Warriors" in the west?
