(I know this isn't exactly news, but I recently discovered it so give me a break)
Is this the future of cinema & special effects? Will this film go on to transcend Terminator 2, Commando & Predator as the greatest action/war film of all time?

Reminds me of when I used to make stupid videos with my friends as a kid, in a good way that is. I'm actually considering buying it, not even because it's comically bad, but because it looks like a genuinely fun movie to me. It's hilarious how my taste in movies has plummeted over the years. When I was a teen I preferred complex movies and some avant-garde stuff. Now that I'm older that shit is like kryptonite to me.

winnersdontusedrugs - Me too. What the hell happens to us? I think that, as we get older, we feel less pressure to impress other people, so we just start appreciating games/movies for fun. At least that's what I tell myself when I'm watching Deadly Prey. Another thing: I've learned to put more value on movies created by people who are genuinely putting their hearts into it, so I sometimes prefer a cheesy movie that was done as a passion project over a well-made movie made to win an award. I do think people like Ed Wood or Tommy Wiseau deserve some admiration, and not in an ironic-hipster way: it's awesome that there are people out there who will go great lenghts to realize the movies they have in their heads, even if their heads are kind of a mess inside.

For me, part of what made me lose interest in these kinds of movies is because my priorities changed in what I want in a movie. I'd use to think of art as someone lightyears ahead of me sharing their philosophy with the world, but upon realizing a lot of these artists are only slightly less clueless then I am and you shouldn't look to art as a platform for learning, that aspect of movies lost it's appeal to me. Another thing: I've learned to put more value on movies created by people who are genuinely putting their hearts into it, so I sometimes prefer a cheesy movie that was done as a passion project over a well-made movie made to win an award. You know I think that's an excellent observation. When I got to the point where I wasn't wild about super serious movies I'd start watching these ironic, self-aware movies thinking they'd be a refreshing change. I ended up getting sick of them in record time, never being able to explain why until you put it into words just now. Of course, there's no way I can tell what movie is truly "genuine" or not, but I just go with how I feel.
