It is a very moving text and I recommend everyone here to read it - Derek writes really well. I hope he keeps his treatment and gets better.
I also keep wishing Mark collaborates with him in any of his future Feature Reviews - my favourite CGR videos were from that time when Mark, Derek and Brandon usually shared the screen together.

That's just brutal. I had no idea that Derek was suffering this much, and I'm not even sure I want to know how long he's been feeling this way. While I'm glad that he was able to find some solace in his favorite game, I really hope he finds some genuine help if possible. Hopefully he's seeking it out, thank god he realizes that you can't use videogames as a mental crutch. That's a trap that I've seen many people fall into. I also keep wishing Mark collaborates with him in any of his future Feature Reviews - my favourite CGR videos were from that time when Mark, Derek and Brandon usually shared the screen together. I agree. I know Derek was shook up about having to leave CGR, and while I'm not sure if that had anything significant impact on why he's feeling so depressed now, hopefully something like doing a CGR collab might help him (and result in some really good content for that matter). Hell, I hope he finds anything that can help his long-term mental stability in a healthy way.

Yeah, I saw the link somewhere in the forum.
It is hard to see it now but Breath Of The Wild is a game changer for open world games.
It is also the first time in history a full on AAA title is on the go and with exactly the same version as the console version.
I'm happy for Derek finding the greatness in it.

winnersdontusedrugs - In the article, he says the psychologist he interviewed is the same one treating him, so he's getting professional help. I really hope he overcomes this, depression must be a bitch.

Yeah, scipioafricanus linked to this in our Breath of the Wild thread down where few dare to travel, in the deep catacombs of the Nintendo section. It's a major bummer, guys. It's weird how you can form a kind of bond with someone just by watching their video game reviews on the internet, but I feel like Derek is my buddy. So it sucks to hear things aren't going well for him. I checked his Twitter a few times over the past couple years and thought everything seemed fine. He had that Manthology podcast for a little while. I hope something good comes out of this. I always felt he'd make a great addition to something like IGN or whathaveyou, a place to make new video reviews. No clue if that's something he's still interested in, but either way, I wish him all the best.

I'm currently listening to the Manthology podcast (gone through 11 of them). And it seems he was just fine then. One can never truly know though how a person is feeling inside.

Cgr kinda died for me once Undertow ended. The show really was at its best for me from 2013-15, with the big office space, the great running gags, and Brandon's emotionless face. It's so empty now, but I'm glad that Mark can still make a living by doing the show.

My favorite years were 09 to 13, but the show is still great. Mark always makes funny reviews.

Sometimes it showed in his reviews from say a year+ ago. It's been steadily getting back to the old level of on-camera optimism again, though, and that's good to see. CGR went from being just Mark to a team of like a dozen people and now back to just Mark again. It's actually a great credit to Mark that he's kept the production values really constant the whole time. They went up after the very beginning and never went back down. Even now, he's cranking out a new review just about every day PLUS all of those books. Tons of respect is due. I don't watch CGR as religiously as I did a couple years ago anymore (maybe it's the absence of Derek and Friends like licensedgames says) but I'm glad Mark didn't give up on his dream.

His ambitions have never been bigger. I mean it's not easy to write all of those books. The problem I have with it. I would rather them be video reviews. Loved the MUSHA movie. Would love to see a Pac-Man one.

I hated reading that story. I wish him the best. I wondered why they weren't doing anything together anymore, but I know quite a few people with depression. Some are so bad off that they don't do anything in public anymore. I hope Derek isn't that far down the rabbit hole. I wish him nothing but the best.
