Bringing back the first game's art style is a big plus. It seems it won't be like the Dynasty Warriors clone like the last one. A glimpse of the Federation's perspective could be interesting.
But don't forget Sega's ability to screw things up.

Meh... The original was good I'll admit, but far from mindblowing. Personally a 'C+' game if I had to grade it. Truthfully I was more intrigued by Revolution's reveal trailer (which I have yet to play), than this one. I'll try Revolution first, and if that perks some interest, I might put this on the list as well.
That being said, I'm really surprised the series is still going strong with this 4th title. After the luckluster reception of the previous 3 games (or 2 in the West), you'd think the franchise would've been put on ice indefinitely.
Maybe the remaster of the original did well enough to show them they took a wrong turn with Revolution, and that all they needed was just to get it back to basics. No more portables, no more drastic shifts in gameplay - just more of the first back on good'ol home consoles.

I never understood the move of having II & III exclusive to the PSP, specially when the first game was a PS3 exclusive and massively popular in console form. In a way it looks like it may had ruined the commercial flow of the series, but who knows.
I mean, there is nothing wrong in having a handheld version, but as long as the console versions were guaranteed first, particularly because your base was originally found on consoles.
This is why I feel that for a lot of people Revolution was the actual sequel to Chronicles, when in reality it is the fourth game and a side thing not even numbered. It was released in console form, and that is what people was expecting.
Not releasing the other games in console form, and instead putting them in a dying handheld system as the PSP was at the time, only shows that they didn't have confidence in their product's quality. I'm sure they can say they had publishing issues or whatever, but there is really no excuse.
I'm also worried with anything Deep Silver puts their hands on. Hopefully Sega will be careful about working with them or simply dismiss them entirely. Not that I should care, as I still have yet to play a title in the series, but it is hard not to notice when the series has received such an amazing reception.

See, the PC remaster of the first one outsold THE ENTIRE SERIES in one or two months, proving that, who would know, strategy games do very well on PC. So, why the hell would Sega see that data, recognize it (they made some announcements on their website about how well the pc version was doing), and then NOT announce a pc version of this new one? I'm pretty sure some higher up at Sega just hates this series and wants to see it dead by any means, what with the PSP and japanese exclusives and everything involving Revolution.

(I'm pretty sure it will get a pc version down the line as almost every current Sega release gets one, I just find it super strange that they would not include it in the announcement.)

Consoles first my brother. Premier releases are always console first (at least with Japanese games anyway...)If they can get it selling on the biggest market first, the PC version later down the line is almost guaranteed to do well too. If it doesn't do well on consoles, they can still try with PC later anyway and see how it goes. It's just marketing prudence.

But sure, they must've not had much confidence in the brand if they went for portable only. I doubt they would do that, but if they are willing to release them, they may as well do consoles with steel boxes and everything. Just give this IP the treatment it deserves, and I say that just based on the reception. At this point everyone knows these games are cool, except Sega for some reason. So, why the hell would Sega see that data, recognize it (they made some announcements on their website about how well the pc version was doing), and then NOT announce a pc version of this new one? In theory the PC market is larger than that of consoles. I would say the reasoning behind it is that PC ports are the hardest to do, they require so much extra work because millions of things can go wrong. Consoles have a very well defined architecture and are more predictable to develop for. That is why even big multi-billion dollars corporations like Warner Bros. can release a massive license IP like Batman on PC and still make a mess.

It better come to PC. I'm not downgrading to a console to play it. Look at how good the sales were of valkyria chronicles on PC. It blew the lifetime sales of the ps3 version out of the water.

Plus developers also have to realize everyone's PC is different. You can build your PC how you want it to be and with everyone having different hardware in there pc's its more to take into consideration when making a game for PC or porting it.

What annoys me is that Sega has a lot of expertise in developing and porting for pc, and even own studios that develop a lot of pc exclusive games (like the Total War guys). The PS4 and One architectures are just standardized pcs, so much that even console-centric japanese developers like Koei-Tecmo and Namco-Bandai are releasing every one of their current games on pc. Sega just ported Bayonetta and Vanquish, which were complicated ports (the damage in Vanquish was framerate-dependent, they had to reprogram that somehow) and were not guaranteed to be a success; also, Sonic Forces got a pc release alongside the consoles. So I have no idea why they would ignore a much easier pc port for a series that made so many sales on pc - they definitely have the means to do it and most of the audience for the series is there.
I mean, I would understand if it was a PS4 exclusive, but they went the trouble of announcing a Switch port - which is a much more complicated thing and a system that doesn't have the guaranteed audience. It just puzzles me.
I'm not really complaining (as the probability of a pc port is almost a certainty), it's just that not including pc in the initial release seems another bad decision in a series that was almost completely screwed up by bad decisions.

If anything it shows that Sega are not the only ones who (if indeed) are crazy... Then again Rockstar isn't Japanese so...

What I've heard is that Red Dead Redemption's code is such a mess that it is almost impossible to port, the programmers took all kinds of shortcuts while developing it.
