Hah yes. I see the comparison.
I think I have all of the ones I can get aside from post-game stuff. On chapter 15 now, so just going through the rest of the story. I am...unsure if I'll grab the various DLC. I'm kind of hoping once it is all out, they'll be a package. I definitely like more missions though. I don't regret getting the VC1 or VC2 DLC on the initial release.
I'm pleased that pretty much all of my plot related concerns have been addressed as well.

There are definitely a couple of references like that, which I'm fairly sure the english localization team at Atlus sneaked in. Like not only does Jean use the 'kill you last' line, but her full name is Jean Matrix. Ryan Ford has a mullet and an eye patch, and his background notes as a 'legendary mercenary that appears and leads his side to victory' definitely seems to be a Snake/Big Boss reference. As I mentioned in another thread, I finished the main story and a bit of the post-game content, but I've put VC4 down for now. Might come back later to do more of the post game and DLC.
I thoroughly enjoyed my 50+ hours with the game, and enjoyed our first view of the war outside of Gallia. There was definitely a much different feel to the main Federation/Empire front.

I'm in chapter 7 now after the snow falls, and I love the idiosyncrasies that still exist from VC1. I don't know how I can upgrade at the base after being on the run. Oh Sega, don't ever change.

Heh, gotta love those immersion breaking bits. Fire Emblem Fates had some bad ones. In-chapter dialogue talking about how they've been on the run between chapters and running out of food. No mention of the magical extra-dimensional paradise castle they retreat to between chapters.

I read that this game was more or less a new skin on VC 1. There are some huge changes in tactics thus far. I love the fact that I can use the APC to move the slow moving units to the battle front. The command option helps me move people to the front faster while adding extra fire power. Now, I have naval commands too. I'm loving the changes! Now, if only we had more vegetables...

I just purchased the DLC package that is just now offered for $24.99. I'm on the last chapter, but I'm unwilling to finish it off. I've noticed that upgrading my equipment is much more expensive than VC 1. Of course I did the crossover DLC first, and I loved it except for one caveat: Their voices are different! That irked me to no end at first. I got over it eventually, but I think Alicia's voice is the same. Ugh. Minor gripe, I know, but they're beloved characters for God's sake. Anyways, they through a lot of throwbacks to the main story that will remind you of important events to come in the future. Speaking of which... Playing as Isara made me wish that the DLC would never end.  I'm on the beach DLC, and it threw me off for a second. I took the flag in a couple of movement in the first turn, and I thought that was WAAAAAY too easy. It turns out you have to find all of the aces. I'm guessing there is four, since I have found 3, and nothing else has really happened. I suppose I'll try again later today. (I refuse to look up anything online.) The DLC pack is a lot of fun thus far. |

So, I beat it last week. I still don't want to do a review on it, since so much more has been opened up. I'm very happy they don't require you to play through the game a second time like VC 1.
Side note: I'll be damned if they could have made the final upgrades any more expensive. Holy crap. This better be worth it...

5 years later, my son is playing my digital copy of 1 on his Switch, and he wants to borrow my physical copy of 4 when he is done with 1.
