Don't you think it's a bit extreme to label trannies as "mentally ill"? I don't think we know enough about the medical side of this transgender identity status phenomenon to call it a mental illness. I mean, that's what people did back in the day with gays/lesbians and it turned out to be a false assumption. We don't know enough about the medical side of most mental illnesses, I'm by no means a die-hard believer in psychology but I think they should at least follow their own rules. When you feel uncomfortable in your own body to the point that you feel the need to take harmful hormones and possibly go through brutal surgical procedures, and the attempted suicide rate of your group is 10 times higher than the average person's (regardless of factors such as whether they've transitioned or not) I consider that a mental illness. As for gays/lesbians, the primary factor of homosexuality getting removed was protesting from the LGBT community and backlash against the flawed "treatments" for homosexuality, it wasn't triggered by some scientific revelation. Even if you don't consider homosexuality a mental illness (which I can't knock someone for at all) gays/lesbians are still more prone to other mental illnesses and domestic abuse between partners than the average person. I'm not advocating that homosexuality should be officially considered a mental illness again, it's just another reason why I don't exactly have an unwavering faith in psychology. I don't think that homosexuality being considered "normal" has changed the fact that being gay/lesbian is still very much a struggle, even if they don't run into problems caused by homophobes. Besides, there are plenty of transgender people on the planet that are happy and successful in life. That doesn't strike me as mentally ill. You can say the same thing about depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, etc. I want to be very clear, when I say someone is mentally ill I'm not saying that they should be locked up in a loony bin or be given pills every day. I think most people with mental illnesses are capable and worthy of living their lives with the rest of the populace, they just have a harder time doing it. In fact, mental illness a common thing that affects almost 1 out of 5 in America. Hell we recently had a thread about how Derek was suffering from depression. |

I don't know much about transgender people, I know even less about Twitch, and absolutely nothing about Cosmo. But I do know that if Mark came out tomorrow and told us that Lord Karnage is now Lady Karsha, I'd keep watching so long as the topic didn't change to make-up tutorials* and the humor stayed the same as before. It'd be pretty weird seeing Mark in a dress, but I don't really care what anyone does so long as they're not hurting anyone and it makes them happy. *Though Mark doing make-up tutorials could be pretty funny. "You know what this shade of amber would look just stunning on? The VECTREX!!" Likewise, Spirit Bomb , if you were to one day decide that you wanted to finish what your doctor started, to castrate yourself and become a woman, don't worry. Dan E. Kool will always love you. ❤ |

I know quite a few people on the spectrum and it actually makes sense: the hyperfocusing, the lack of care about social norms, the intense emotions (they're either stoic or emo) and the constant looking inward. |
