It seems like transgender is a pretty taboo subject currently. A lot of people don't seem to understand or respect those who identify as transgender, with many arguing that you are how life made you, no amount of surgery/pills can change that, and you should accept how you naturally are.
The reason I bring this subject up is because one of my favorite speedrunners, Cosmo Wright (a man previously known for speedrunning several Nintendo games, including OoT), recently came out as transgender and changed her name as well as started taking hormone pills, wearing women's clothing, and, well, acting completely differently from how they used to. Personally, I'm ok with their decision, even though I'm a bit sad that they retired from speedrunning. But a lot of people who were formally fans of her Twitch and Youtube accounts dropped their support for her once she came out as transgender, to the point where she can no longer make a living off of playing video games. She also became a target for cyber bullies, which contributed to her decision to abandon her Twitch account, since that's where the majority of the bullying was occurring.
Apparently there were some rather tragic events that occurred in their life prior to their decision to come out as transgender, leading many to believe that she in fact may be suffering from real mental illness which is causing her to act this way.
Regardless, I just think it's a bit odd that the world has come to welcome gays and lesbians, but not transgenders. Why not?

As far as Cosmo goes, I think a lot of the flak he caught was due to him shifting his channel in a different direction and doing a fraction of the speedrunning that he used to do pre-transition, and also putting out garbage content (some of said content being downright uncomfortable to watch). I'm sure Cosmo caught flak for being trans too, but I don't think that was a problem that most people who dropped their support of Cosmo had. she in fact may be suffering from real mental illness which is causing her to act this way. Well of course she's suffering from mental illness, she's transgender. I think people really underestimate the amount of inner turmoil these people go through, and don't acknowledge the fact that there's no real cure for it. A lot of people think some of the main problems transgenders face are people not using the correct pronoun or not being able to use a certain bathroom. Being transgender isn't some fashion statement or passing fad, it is 100% a mental illness and a lifelong internal struggle. Regardless, I just think it's a bit odd that the world has come to welcome gays and lesbians, but not transgenders. It depends what you consider "welcome". Personally, I think we welcome them well enough. At least in America, none of their rights are being infringed that I know of, instead of maybe bathroom laws in certain places, but that's a whole other can of worms. |

There is a transgender dude in the FGC that is very good at Street Fighter, Ricky Ortiz. He almost won the EVO tournament once, but lost to Daigo. He is a she now. It is hard to say what goes on inside their heads. I think they really want to express something. It is hard not to assume some kind of psychological trauma or some kind of oppressed feeling is causing that kind of behavior. If you ask them, many would say is genetic. We know there is genetic disposition to many things, so who knows.

Does the Rocky IV Robot count as trans? It had a male voice when it wished Paulie a happy birthday, but had a female voice later. Paulie even took a liking to the female Rocky IV Robot.

Uhhh, yes? I guess? winnersdontusedrugs Don't you think it's a bit extreme to label trannies as "mentally ill"? I don't think we know enough about the medical side of this transgender identity status phenomenon to call it a mental illness. I mean, that's what people did back in the day with gays/lesbians and it turned out to be a false assumption. Besides, there are plenty of transgender people on the planet that are happy and successful in life. That doesn't strike me as mentally ill. Also, Cosmo did show subtle signs of fantasizing about being a women before he came out as transgender (such as painting his nails and maining Zelda in Smash Bros), so it's not like it came out of nowhere. He clearly seems to have wanted to be this way for quite some time. But I do agree that some of her post-trans videos have been really strange/cringy and concerning. For the record, I don't really watch any of her new content (it doesn't interest me), I'm just not against her decision to be transgender like some people out there are. |
