I have no particular story for that. I guess we called him like that because at the time we were impressed with his math skills, but that's because we had no idea how much deeper the use of algebra was going to get once we started trigonometry, and calculus, two years after.

Anyways, I'm a big fan of the word alacrity as of late as well. I had no clue as to what it meant, but I was going through Huck Finn's whitewashing story again and took note of it and looked it up.
"Tom gave up the brush with reluctance in his face, but alacrity in his heart."
I love that line. I think that will be my word of the week.
