I may slightly prefer Evil Dead 2, but this is still a 5 to me. It's damn hard to pull action/comedy/horror/fantasy/b-movie charm all in the same movie, but Army of Darkness sure as hell does it. This movie's Ash is still unparalleled in being simultaneously a screw-up and a true hero - the closest I can think of, besides Ash himself in the other movies/series, is Jack Burton in Big Trouble in Little China. By the way, which ending do you guys prefer? I prefer the "present" one, if just for the final monologue (Hail to the king, baby!), but I admit that the far-future one is more in line with the previous movie and with Ash always screwing things up and ending in a worse situation than before.

For a second I thought you guys were talking about City Of Angels. I was definitely way off.
By the way, I like the use of Metallica in the trailer, and also I know Jim Carrey style is different, but I can see how Jim Carrey borrowed a lot from this guy in his performances.

It has some really funny moments but comedies are not my thing. IMO the first Evil Dead is head and heels above the silly sequels. The original is still one of my favorite horror films (and films period) of all time.

I agree with this assessment. Evil Dead II is the superior Evil Dead movie, but Amry of Darkness, starring Bruce, has the best one liners and wisecracks of really any movie. Duke Nukem stole half his material from this movie. I always preferred the S-Mart ending anyway, but now with Ash Vs. Evil Dead, the S-Mart ending is now the only ending that can possibly make sense if you’re into continuity the way I am. And no movie has better skeletons than Army of Darkness.

This movie is just too much fun man.
"While not as perfect as Evil Dead II, I still think this movie is a masterpiece worthy of much praise. It does not retain the amount of blood and gore as the other movies had, but god damn if this is not the funniest one. Ash is such a great character who has influenced so many other characters it is insane. Bruce Campbell perfected one-liners in this film as it is endlessly quotable. Sam Raimi too brought his A-game is this movie is highly creative and fun like this franchise is known for. This film is different from the previous two, but I think it finally found its true identity in this. It is over the top and it is such an experience, and I would not have it any other way." 5/5

scipioafricanus - It is. The tv show made a great homage to this one, though. It is pretty much how the show ends, except more elaborated upon. It was a good send off.

Balder - The alternative ending: This was a cool ending, but I do prefer the ending we got.

I prefer the "present" one, if just for the final monologue (Hail to the king, baby!), but I admit that the far-future one is more in line with the previous movie and with Ash always screwing things up and ending in a worse situation than before. Been meaning to say: even though I grew up with the S-mart ending, I absolutely love the slept too long ending and its now my favorite of the two by a huge margin. Sam Raimi said that the reason he wrote the original ending is because he loved torturing the character of Ash. I couldn't agree more with that. I myself love seeing machismo alpha males get tortured. All-american alpha males like Ash Williams are the biggest pieces of shit to ever exist. American alpha males serve no purpose and just go around fucking over the people around them their entire life until they finally do the world a favor and drop dead. My uncle was an abusive, oversized, perverted, machismo alpha male and that piece of shit finally croaked a few months ago. Not soon enough if you ask me. I hate body builders, I hate alpha males, I hate american conservatives, I hate gun worshipers, I hate jocks, I hate toxic masculinity, and I hate the character of Ash Williams. All these things can go fuck off.
