I just realized that he hasn't posted a game review in MONTHS! D: I was so surprised by the state of his channel that I came straight here to comment. Holy smokes, it's never been this desolate of content before. It's shocking! (and I mean that in a really bad way)

I started watching CGR on Amazon for support. I've seen many of those reviews, but most are fun enough to run through them again. I also like I'm seeing some Undertow stuff already featured there.
Back in the day I remember seeing Mark's reviews underneath classic gaming hardware I was checking out on the Amazon website, and I was always satisfied with his content there, so he is definitely not new by any means to that platform.
That G-Darius review is hilarious. I don't even remember laughing that hard the first time I watched it.

I would also say the first 3 episodes have been pretty great. If you're in an area outside the U.S. where Prime does not have the show yet, or don't feel like shelling out for Amazon Prime, the $2 pledge level for the Patreon gets you Vimeo links to all the episodes so far.

I have watched a few episodes, and they are outstanding. I really dig his extended format.
It turns out the AVGN is pulling a hybrid system, and he is going to upload on Amazon first . Amazon must really pay their content providers a fair wage.

As always CGR is always leading. It doesn't surprise me others are following the steps of the space arcade.

This is just YouTube fucking over James. Cinemassacre actually get hundreds of thousands of views, while CGR only get 10 000 if he's lucky.

That doesn't contradict my point. Well maybe not, but my point was that CGR had to do those things to survive. Had they got as many views as James, they would not have used those innovative methods. Still, I guess I'll hand it to Mark for releasing his content on Amazon Prime. Not many have done so before him (YouTubers, that is.)

Classic Game Room aired back in the Dreamcast days, and even in 2008, it was still a leading gaming channel. In other words what others do, CGR did it first. That is cool no matter how you see it.

What drives me nuts is that when Mark did it, most comments I saw about it were criticizing the decision and saying that CGR would go back to Youtube in the future anyway; now that AVGN has announced his own migration, most people suddenly decided that it is a great decision and screw Youtube etc.
The truth is: for the last few years, more elaborated shows have only survived on Youtube because of outside support (usually through Patreon and merchandising); it's becoming obvious that even that is not enough to support them in the long run - Patreon numbers tend to go down with time and I don't know how much money merchandising brings in. For people who spend a lot of time in filming/editing and a lot of resources in expensive cameras and sets (as CGR and AVGN), looking for other distribution channels that value more quality content is a need.
The problem right now is that Amazon, for some reason, doesn't make their content available in every region - even in regions where they released Prime, you can't access the entire content (there's Prime in Brazil, but I can't watch neither CGR nor the new AVGN through it). It seems they have some restrictions regarding subtitles - a show will only be available in a country if it has subtitles in its language, which is just a terribly stupid decision by Amazon. I hope they sort it out in the future and recognize that there are english speakers in other countries. Imagine if I could only watch Youtube videos that had portuguese language subtitles, I would never have access to anything.

I've supported him with a ton of money through Patreon and Kickstarter. What bothers me is the way he treats his supporters. Instead of thanking them and being grateful for having the most successful Patreon campaign in his genre, he complains. He fucking complains to the people supporting him in premium products. Fuck off with that shit man. It was tolerable at first, but it got ridiculous towards the end.

Balder - I agree with that and I know you've never complained about Patreon/Amazon (the comments I was referring to were on Youtube or in other forums, I don't think anyone over here had that kind of reaction). There was a time when Mark became very negative and started posting things on Youtube that were all jabs at bad commenters - but in the end, felt like jabs at the fans and even on his Patreon posts and Podcasts there was a lot of negativity. I still think he could've handled the migration much better if he wasn't so upset at Youtube: to date, I don't think he has even posted on Youtube an announcement of the migration or the trailer of the new series. Long time fans know about it, but people who casually discover CGR will think that the channel simply ceased, as it's not getting any new videos. I guess AVGN is doing a better transition in this regard: do a partial migration at first with a simple, sincere announcement that looks like an invitation to the new channel instead of a jab at Youtube. That said, Mark has been much more positive lately and the episodes themselves are more upbeat, so I guess he just needed to get out of Youtube - maybe all the videos being taken down and dwindling revenue were grinding his patience. I've just watched his new episode on Fire Emblem/New 3DS/Sega Nomad and it was very fun.
