Never owned a Vectrex but boy does that joystick look like it would be torture to use. It looks far more painful than even the N64 joystick. You couldn't be more wrong. The Vectrex joystick is actually one of the smoothest joysticks I've ever used. It feels like it's spring loaded. The N64 controller however... In a addition to being one of the dumbest designs ever, the thumbstick is just hard plastic. It sucks and it's a piece of shit. Trying to play Rainbow Six on the N64 is less enjoyable than actually participating in a real life R6 operation. I'm not defending the N64 controller, because frankly its joystick has aged like hot shit, but the vectrex controller doesn't even have a head on its joystick. It's literally just a plastic stick. How the hell is it possible for your thumb not to slide off it all the time during gameplay? |

The N64 were fine for me. I played GoldenEye at what I would call a professional level, and I never ruined one. However that has also been the case with every controller I ever had of every console.
On the other hand most people I personally know that play console games always end up breaking their joysticks. The N64
was probably the one I saw the most broken of them all. In a way the N64 was too delicate, made for adults with big hands that like FPS games, so kids always broke those sticks.
I have no idea how people play to do that, but controllers only last a year for them, the same goes with the PS2, PS3, and PS4 controllers. My only guess is they get too excited when they play, and they use too much force, probably thinking more force will equal more responsiveness which is not true at all.

It's kind of special to watch it in person. It doesn't use sprites and frames, but light beams which makes the animation so fluid! |
