For a lot of us Pokémon is a series that died when the Game Boy Advance games came out, and saw a short-lived revival with Pokémon Go. And I bet that at least one person here never played any of the games at all. So, what would it take to get you into Pokémon (again)?

I finished playing Alpha Sapphire about a month ago and recorded a podcast with my friend who was Marathon-ing the games. Arguably, none of the games in the core series are bad, however, I'm still waiting for the realization of a full-scale 3D adventuring game with combat in the vein of Pokemon Stadium. Gale of Darkness was surprisingly good as a JRPG game though, I'd replay that despite its brevity.

Loved Sapphire as a kid. Bought a 3DS to play the remake. I just couldn't for the life of me get into again. It's all just grinding.

Probably my kids? My brother's kids got him into playing Pokemon Go. His son was really into it. I'm really not interested.

I could never bring myself to finish a single pokemon game aside from Yellow which I had as a kid. I just seem lose all interest in continuing by the time I get to the last few gym battles, I haven't even played a pokemon game since soulsilver came out. The of catching and training different pokemon is executed well enough to me get through the majority of the game, but I always end up losing interest in it. Not to say I dislike the series, I think the games are pretty good, they just have trouble keeping my attention after a certain point.

Just like with the Metal Gear saga, I have quite a few of those games, for the 3DS in this case, but I still have to play them. I guess it is just a matter of doing it. I always wanted to know what the fuss is all about. I initially got them for the 3DS collecting factor, and because they are part of Smash, but I don't want to be one of those people that buys stuff just to complete the collection. I am planning to play them all the way through at least once.
That said, I never got into the show, it always felt too kiddy for me. Then again I have watched mote kiddy stuff as well, maybe that's what has stopped me so far, it's a TV show I never liked, a card game I never collected for, or played, and they are turn based RPGs, basically the exact opposite of everything I go for, but I don't want to be close minded and not give it a chance, at least to the games.

I think I just missed the Pokémon craze. I was in high school when they first came out, and although some friends and classmates played them, they never really hooked me. I still know a fair bit about them just due to pop culture, and due to having to run the league for the Pokémon card game when I worked in a card and board game store during university, but I never had the urge to dive into the video games.
That said, I don't hold any particular dislike for them. I've liked other monster collecting games in the past (loved Monster Rancher I and II on the PS1), and but I just never got the Pokémon bug.

I enjoyed playing Pokémon Blue when I was... 13, I guess? Stadium was also a fun versus game at the time. But I couldn't even finish Gold/Silver and haven't played any new games since then. I thought I would go back into it with the hype surrounding Go (which turned out to be just empty hype), but that didn't spark my interest either.
By the way, I think Go is the most disappointing missed oportunity in recent memory. Why didn't they design an actual game around it, with traditional battles and all?

Pokemon did not die when the third gen games came out. I've played every Pokemon game except the new ones. It died for me when it became nothing but dumb WiFi battling on the ds and became competitive instead of just a complete the pokedex game. Now I only play Pokemon ROM hacks nowadays with my favorite out of the ones I played being liquid crystal and resolute version.

What would get me into Pokemon? If I could go back in time to the late 90's, collect the 1st Gen cards and resell them now at a markup. These things are valuable!

I didn't know about the competitive side of it until someone told me a few weeks ago. It was surprising for me to know that kind of stuff existed on a handheld device.
