Has anyone played this game? I am thinking about picking up the Switch version when it comes out in June. I want something to play before Octopath Traveler comes out. The PS 4 version has a great rating, yet the Steam version has a 5/10 rating. What gives? I know I could Google the differences, but I'd rather hear about it from people I like/trust when it comes to gaming.

The PC version was delayed for many months(and only announced a day before its supposed release) and then it still had issues at release. As for whether it's big issues or not I'm not sure as I plan to get the Switch version most likely.

I love the Ys series, but I'll only play this after VII (which I still haven't bought) and after they finally fix the PC version. It seems a pretty good game from everything I saw - on today's episode of Game Sack, they even mentioned it as being the best in the series.
Too bad that Falcom didn't go with XSEED for the translation/porting of this one, as they were doing a great work with the series and it was finally getting more acknowledgement in the west - all the XSEED translations are spot on and their pc ports went great lenghts to add more options to the games and make them as free as possible of bugs.

I did not know that the PC edition was so damn bad.

YS I & II on the PC Engine were the console's flagship titles along with Star Soldier and Super Star Soldier which are shmups. But in terms of RPGs YS was always on the same level of Dragon Warriors, Phantasy Star, and Final Fantasy back then. Last year I remember they finally released YS Origins on the PS4 which is supposedly the beginning of the Saga. I never play RPGs but I respect their legacy a lot.

I'm going for the Vita one myself.

Considering how NIS has been so incompetent with this game (and maybe they are responsible for the port instead of Falcom themselves), I wouldn't buy the Switch version at release - better to wait for some reviews. Switch ports can always have graphics that are too downgraded, framerate issues or other kinds of problems.

I haven't had a problem with frame rate issues, but then again, I haven't played that WWE game. I hope it isn't anything close to that. This game looks great.

Ys is hardly a graphically high end or taxing game though. Looks like it was built using a last gen engine, with gameplay & visuals very reminescent of Xenoblade 1 or 2. Nowhere to the point of requiring a downgrade for the Switch I don't think. And if the Vita can run it fine, which user reviews evidently suggests it does...

I'm putting YS III along many other RPGs of the era on my SNES Classic. I'm thinking of finally jumping on the genre.

Do keep in mind that Ys III is the black sheep of the series, being entirely different from the others (think of it as Zelda 2). Its remake, "The Oath in Felghana", is one of the best games, though. Still my favourite in the series and a great starting point for new fans.

Haven't played it yet, but the GameSack folks definitely seem wild about it.

I was going to say that. The Adventure Of Link is great.
