I like Adol is actually steering his own ship now in X, not so sure that's a good idea given his history. I still need to get on playing IX. I know it wasn't as well-regarded as VIII but I still think I'll enjoy it. Yeah, I definitely don't think giving Adol a ship is a good idea. Isn't "Adol gets shipwrecked and washes up on the shores of X" the traditional opening of an Ys game? EVERY SINGLE TIME

This was posted today. Because I've returned to VIII, I am genuinely excited.

Nice! As usual, I'll probably wait until it's on a 50% off sale, but it's nice to see they seem to have taken some of the feedback about a lot of Ys XI being very drab. Seeing lots of Ys VIII-style vibrant colors there.

As I posted earlier, I finally finished Ys VIII for a second time in hard mode, and I loved it even more than the first. This time around, I finished every raid and every hunt. I didn't realize there were so many the first time around, and they got really difficult at the end. I discovered that there was an optional dungeon in the Sanctuary Ruins too. My God, was that hard. I was nearly dead after each room. That final boss was insanely difficult, and he put the final boss to shame. I don't really understand the purpose of the 3 medals you get at the end of it all, because nothing compares to the final boss.
I really like the story. It has been 5 years since I've run through it, and it still holds up in my opinion. I will miss the world of Eternia and Lady Dana, even though some of the story reminded me of a certain Zelda game on the Game Boy. I really hope she is a part of Adol's life in the future, since she said she would always be watching over him. My daughter was having none of that, and the tears were flowing like a waterfall when I finished it. She just couldn't get over the fact that she wasn't going to be with the team in the future. (I'll hold off on spoilers there.)
I'm excited to try IX this week. I've heard mixed things about it, but I will remain optimistic.

Minor spoilers for Ys IX There is an NPC in Ys IX who gets possessed by various folks Adol knows briefly, including Feena, Dana, and even Dark Fact. I believe their voices are also heard at one point.
