stratogustav Well, excuuuuse me for having my own opinion! I'm not brainwashed, I just happen to like the movie! It's not the greatest, but neither are the original Star Wars (sorry, Balder, but that's the truth). No movie is perfect. Don't get so wound up. It's just a movie, bro. Calm, calmmmm........ Of course there are perfect movies: Blade Runner, Mulholland Drive, Harakiri and The Godfather.

Not anytime soon I’m guessing! I'll try to get it on the anniversary of our discussion of it.

Lol, I just read through this whole thread. People are so wrong in this thread about so many movies. Just so everyone knows:
The Big Lebowski is an awesome movie.
Pulp Fiction is the best Tarantino movie, and it is not overrated.
Watchmen is the best Snyder movie, not 300, which is a bit overrated.
Mad Max: Fury Road is one of the best action movies ever made.
Okay, here for the review of Escape from New York:
"I want to love this John Carpenter movie because it has so many great things in it. The premise is brilliant, a guy has to save the president in New York because New York has become one giant prison, a lawless society. Its influence can be seen everywhere from the Batman Arkham games to Metal Gear Solid. It has lots of funny jokes and gags, and lots of interesting plot elements that keeps it from getting stale. Why then is it only a 3/5? To me this looks like a rough cut of a fantastic movie. It feels almost unfinished in some scenes. The sound effects are all incredibly cheap sounding. The cutting is very weird at times, and I honestly thought there was something wrong with the DVD at times. The film is a bit on the cheaper looking side as well, which would be completely fine if they were going for a cheap budget movie, however in this case it looks like they were trying to make something grand but did not have the money for it. What is weird to me is that John Carpenter was going on to make The Thing just the year after this came out, and that movie has aged a million times better, and it was not even that more expensive to make! Just a couple of million dollars in difference. This movie is very entertaining, do not get me wrong. I just see what could have been so much better in it. The ending was great though, loved it." 3/5

There is so much good stuff said in this thread. Whoever said all those movies are highly overrated is profoundly correct.

Balder - It does have some rough quality to it when it comes to editing and sound, but it's one of those films, like Highlander, that has so many cool concepts put together and is so unique with its characters and visuals that the rough parts get a pass to me. I do agree that The Thing aged much better, but then it's a movie with just two small locations and only a few characters - whatever money they had to make it, was enough to get everything right. Besides, John Carpenter was a bit more experienced when he made The Thing. I think my point is that The Thing and other Carpenter's movies are even better and more professionally made, but Escape from NY itself, while rough, has so much style, characters and plot that it surpasses its flaws in my mind. Also, Adrienne Barbeau. On the other movies, I'm with you. Watchmen was Snyder at his best and I agree with everything else.
