So these days HD remakes/reboots are all over the place. Some are bad, and many are just a waste of money-- but, the ones that are good give so much satisfaction. Lets talk about those good remakes/reboots (they don't have to be HD or even current gen). What are some that have made you feel nostalgic? How about ones that made you like a series you used to be not so fond of? Or maybe just a few that have allowed you to discover a cool series?
I recently picked up the latest Strider, and it captures the feel of the first game and jacks it up to eleven. It's so action packed, and it's much less clunky to control which is a greatly accepted change. Nothing beats mowing down cyborg foot-guards with a laser sword while rocking out to Sonic Youth (because unfortunately the music is kind of mediocre)
I also want to get Rayman Origins, I played a friend's copy and thought it was pretty cool. Does anyone have any thoughts on that game? Just so you know I would probably be getting the Steam version, if that makes a difference.

Man, I really need to play Strider. It's just sitting there but I haven't had the time yet...
Probably my favorite remake/reboot/non-reboot is Ninja Gaiden for the Xbox, which I played as Ninja Gaiden Ī£ on Ps3. Amazing gameplay, aesthetics, story, kind of unmatched unfortunately. I'm not a fan of the original series, I think the first game was overshadowed by pretty much every beat'em up out at the time and the NES games were too hard and annoying to go through, so I only really played them to check out the story and how they relate to the new series (SPOILERS only names were changed). Good stuff.

Halo Anniversary has to be on there, becuase it's an actual remake not a HD upscale. It runs both the classic and new engine simultanously which is amazing. An awesome game with awesome visuals and they also remade the soundtrack so you can choose which one to listen to as well.

My three favourites (two of them were already mentioned) are:
Ninja Gaiden Strider Tomb Raider Anniversary
I still haven't played REmake, but I intend to (I only heard good things about it).

Sorry for the double-post, but I forgot one of my favourites:
Ys: The Oath in Felghana
It's a remake of Ys 3, and a really good one at that. Falcom did an awesome job with this game.

If you want to think about it, Metal Gear Solid.

If you want to think about it, Metal Gear Solid. I even thought about it (basically a remake of MG 2: Solid Snake), but, in the end, we should still consider it a sequel. The Metal Gear series really likes that, as MGS2 is, again (and this time justified by the story), almost a remake *with a twist!* of MGS with a new character. The same goes for the Zelda series: Ocarina of Time is A Link to the Past in 3d with some modifications to the story so it could pass as a prequel instead of a remake. But, you know, it follows the exact same general structure.

I rather enjoyed the Shinobi game on PS2, if that counts.

This is a good topic.
Shadow Of The Colossus was huge for me. The added 3D and the HD graphics made the experience more immersive.
I played it on my 135 inches projector screen with closed curtains, and it always felt like I could just walk into that world, plus the bosses looked extra terrifying.
An immersion feeling that would not had been possible with the regular PS2 version.
