I really miss the site. Something just feels off with only forums in case you've noticed my lesser posting and fewer user participation. anyone have similar sentiments?

I guess running the old forums with very few members, and not much traffic was not something good, at least financially.

When the CGR site opened up with forums and a promise to let us keep watching CGR my situation was different. At the time the only regular youtube show I used to watch was CGR, and seeing it move from Youtube made YT obselete to me, and having forums was a nice addition, but that's about it. The other features weren't developed enough for me to feel it was interesting to invest more time in, I assume most felt that way in the end. But then Mark moved back to youtube, and the forums ended up being the only reason why I'd visit the old site, so I get the opposite feeling you got, teddykongcountry.

I totally agree with spidershinobi. There's nothing that the old site had except the Vault Pages, and this site has better forum functions.

I tried some of the other features on the old site but they were never developed enough to keep my interest, the forum was the only part I kept coming back to, so a forum is pretty much all I need as long as I have the two other places online I visit related to gaming; gamefaqs and youtube.

While I really liked the spacevault, the main reason why I visited the old site was also the forums, so I agree with spidershinobi 's sentiment. I just wish Mark gave some shout-outs to these forums on his videos; it's always good to have more CGR fans.

I'm sorry but I'm in the same boat as Teddy (and presumably Imperial Khador - while he keeps silent about it, he put in more time and dedication into the site than any of us). The community was built around the database, and the interactivity that came with it. It wasn't just a database, it was a constant inflow of user input in the form of collector's showcases, videos, quick opinons and written reviews - all under the guidance and branding of the CGR name. The forums was just the pub where we got together and talked. All this place is is a forum - the lifeboat we fled to in desperation to preserve the community that was... not really having anything to do with Karnage anymore save the permitted continued use of the name. Yeah, feature wise it's slightly better, but it's not likely to draw any new users that weren't part of the old community - and not even all of those that were cared to make the leap... Karnage only ever bothers to respond to fan input from Patreon & Twitter/Facebook now, and while he may acknowledge this place exists, it's not really part of his community circle anymore.

I, for one, mourn the loss of all that collective knowledge. Having an overall list of games for many systems was a great resource that is missed.

leaon79s it was the other way around. The collection part came after the forum and that's where people went when they didn't talk on the pub. When the site was going down, most seemed to care about the forum as a priority, not the rest.

I don't know how it was in the very first CGR site before the last one, so presumably there was a forum community there without the vault. But what I do know for sure is the user base in the last site only boomed with the Youtube hiatus back in 2013 and the move to using Dailymotion for a time - causing the large influx of new users, myself included, as I suspect quite a few others here as well. The vault was the incentive intended for growing the site's user base and keeping it thriving - which worked, even with the return to Youtube, up until the collapse of the ad model and it fell to non-maintenance. There were still new users coming in towards the final months to add vault pages and post community reviews, even while the forum was dwindling to only our current circle of regulars. What are we, 58 users total, with only 20-30 regular posters out of the hundreds of users in the old site? If not for the fond memories and acquaintances we made there, maybe not even that... But whatever the case, the sad truth is this forum is no longer relevant as part of the CGR enterprise, or Inecom's endeavours. Lamentably it's not even given a link or mention in the CGR blog page... Make it seem as important as you want, but without Karnage's direct involvement, it's just a haven for those of us who enjoyed the old forum and the company we had there. But stratogustav ( although I know he had reasons of his own ) made the effort to keep us together, so I'll always honor him for that.

I joined the original CGR forum quite late really, about a month or so before Mark shut it down and I enjoyed it, I checked it most days and asked a lot of nooby stuff, but it was a great community hence my joining this forum and it's good to see that some of the community did migrate. It's a shame we can't get Mark to push the forum for us.

yar2084 we're working on it, or at least thinking of working on it. leaon79s we're pretty much equal in amount of users here now and what we had on the previous one in terms of posts.

I have distinct memories of going to a vault page with recent Mark reviews such as a World Cup soccer game and seeing the review get upwards of 40 toasts and people leaving quick community reviews. Heck, there were vault pages that got upwards of a hundred community reviews and it didn't necessarily have as much to do with the game. Community reviewers from leaon to smash bros. maestro and even the frequently antagonized sherberttcat (and so many more) established themselves as notable identities because of their writing styles and repertoires and became a constant source of great information to look forward to and 1up (seriously, game reviews need more toast buttons). Then of course there was the archival aspects of the site which allowed us to formulate our own opinions based on community identities who we could associate with because we knew them to certain extents.
Granted, it had its falling off moments after its periods of thriving but when the website was actively being pushed and even beyond then, it constantly served as a well rounded package for us to integrate in several means; it also served as an inspiration for me to begin my own "Youtube career" at a time when I felt lost and has given me a lot to work toward and look forward to so I can never thank Mark and several of the site users enough for that.
Bottom line -- I still miss the site and raise a glass to it for meaning so many things to me.

I have to agree, this forum isn't really so much a CGR community as it is just a gaming community. Even I, someone who joined the CGR website very late, can see the difference. I do prefer this forum in terms of functionality, but I have to say that "CGR" vibe isn't really here. If Mark were to back this forum, I think it could be considerably better than the old forum. I mean the community is as tight as ever, it just needs direction.
