What kind of name is Mississippi? It spells so weird...=ahem= This week, two F.B.I. Agents, with wildly different styles, arrive in Mississippi to investigate the disappearance of some civil rights activists. It could almost be the X-Files, but not quite. Ain't nobody gonna dicuss this film? I watched it on Netflix just now, and it didn't particularly impress me. It was by all means fine and passable, but it's just so unremarkable.
"The perfect movie to watch in a history class in school. It is nothing special, creates no controversy, gives an overview of the historical situation and is very passable in quality. Despite all of this I cannot help but get bored. I have seen all of this before, there is nothing inherently special about it, and there is not anything wrong with it either. It has a good cast of actors and they all give decent performances, but at the end of the day just get the job done. I wish there was something unique about it. This concept has done countless times in all mediums, and this is far from the best." 3/5

Hey does this movie have any martial arts in it? As a matter of fact, it does. There's a scene where FBI agent Gene Hackman beats the shit out of the racist police officer played by Brad Dourif. |

It's an exceptionally well made film, but obviously not very historically accurate at all. This film suggests that white people put their lives on the line to protect blacks during the civil rights movement, which anyone who sat through american history class during high school knows is complete bullshit. Blacks were the only ones risking their lives to support their cause. It's common knowledge here. Yet, the acting is first rate, there's real conflict between the characters (all of whom are well written), many suspenseful scenes...I can't think of any flaws. But because it's not true to the actual story, I'm bumping my score down to a 4/5 for what would normally be a 5/5 film. Can I ask what civil rights dramas you consider better than Mississippi Burning? |

Hey does this movie have any martial arts in it? It's like that time when I was on a kung-fu flicks mood (lots of Jet Li stuff) and then I watched Memoirs of a Geisha with my wife. Worst kung-fu flick ever. The I repeated the mistake with "Raise the red lantern". |

Haven't seen that one, but why would you compare a cowboy western to a drama-suspense flick like Mississippi Burning? According to Wikipedia, Django Unchained isn't even set during the civil rights movement. Not a fair comparison. |
