Yes, the Saturn definitely needs to be present. Yes, Sonic Team music is definitely needed in this list.

Final Fantasy III (VI) is by far my favorite soundtrack of all time. However, I'd like to throw some love in for the Xenoblade series. The fanboy in me plays tracks from those games all the time.

Have you played the original Xenogears? I know for a fact Super Nintendo RPGs have insane sounding music. Just listen how sick this Breath Of Fire track is: So I imagine the PS1 successors should have good stuff as well.

Have you played the original Xenogears? Xenogears and Xenosaga came out right about the time I went off to the Marine Corps, so I missed the saga and gears series, since I didn't have much time to play anything. I jumped aboard the Xenoblade series as soon as I could, and I never want to get off of that train.
As for FF III (VI), Nobuo Uematsu really inspired the heck out of me back in '94, and I have adored him since. That is why I have seen him in concert multiple times. The Super Nintendo really had some kick ass tunes!

I do quite enjoy the Xenogears and Xenosaga soundtracks. Both Yasunori Mitsuda and Yuki Kaijura did some excellent work there.
Would it not make more sense for this to be in the general gaming discussion forum instead of collections and trading though?

Would it not make more sense for this to be in the general gaming discussion forum instead of collections and trading though? Yes, but I thought it was less visible there. I'm not surprised those games have great soundtracks too, specially knowing who they come from. I'm curious about your opinions on other RPGs from the time like: - Azure Dreams - Beyond The Beyond - Brave Fencer Musashi - Breath Of Fire III - Breath Of Fire IV - Chocobo's Dungeon - Chocobo's Dungeon 2 - Devil Summoner - Final Fantasy Tactics - Front Mission 2 - Front Mission 3 - Gramstream Saga - Grandia - Hoshigami - Jade Cocoon - Kartia - Koudelka - Legend Of Dragoon - Legend Of Legaia - Legend Of Mana - Lunar Silver Star - Lunar 2 - Parasite Eve - Parasite Eve II - Persona 2 - Planet Laika - Rhapsody - Revelations Persona - SaGa Forntier - SaGa Frontier 2 - Star Ocean The Second Story - Suikoden - Suikoden II - Tales Of Destiny - Tales Of Eternia - Thousand Arms - Threads Of Fate - Torneko - Vagrant Story - Valkyrie Profile - Vandal Hearts - Vandal Hearts II - Wild Arms - Wild Arms 2 I did not play RPGs, so my knowledge is obscure when it comes to those.

RPG's are built on a great story with strong music to guide the spirit of the essay. I don't think I've ever played a good RPG with crummy music.

I agree, it just makes sense some of the best soundtracks come from RPGs. Thank you everyone for helping out. I finally managed to get to 100. I started from 10, so there was a lot to cover, including badass stuff like this:

Oh dear, I *do* have a few picks of mine that haven't been mentioned yet but I must warn you, about a third of the games in this list are absurdly bad, flawed or niche. I'm gonna place a sample of the songs under spoilers so you can listen to some of them. Games that I deliberately left out because I don't think having a fully-licensed soundtrack is fair to the composers and sound designers: - Most Initial D games
- Crazy taxi
- ATV Quad Power Racing 2
- Wet
- Fallout 3, NV and 4
- Saints row 4
- Revolution X
- N2O
- Bioshock
- Need for speed Underground, Underground 2 and Most Wanted
Some of my favorite sountracks (In no particular order) that haven't been mentioned yet:
- Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness
- Sonic 06 (What, you think I'm joking? Ever heard the soundtrack of the game?!)
- El shaddai: Ascension of the metatron

[li]Star Fox: Assault[/li]
[li]Sonic Generations (Last sonic game on the list, I don't think there has been a sonic game to date where the soundtrack isn't at least "Good" centipede knows what's going on here)[/li] [li]Touhou Koumakyou ~ the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil[/li][/ul]
- Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc (Honestly I don't think the soundtrack for this one is *that* good, but the implementation of it is masterful)

[li]Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team[/li] [li]40 Winks[/li] [li]Cuphead[/li][/ul] - Drunken Robot Pornography

[li]Undertale[/li] [li]Thumper[/li] [li]Jet set Radio[/li] [li]Ape Escape[/li][/ul]
[li]Bully[/li] [li]War of the Human Tanks[/li][/ul] I have a few others but most of them are rythm games and/or games where the game is built around the soundtrack (Take Geometry Dash for example) I think I will stop here for now. I don't even know if I will come back to remove the video tags because I've forgotten how to place spoilers correctly. Edit: Confirmed, I haven't forgotten how to place spoilers but I've given up on making a list [/span][/div]

Guilion I really like the soundtracks of Patapon 3, Jet Set Radio, Dead Rising, and Thumper. All those are at least honorably mentions because they are really good. Ape Escape has a great soundtrack as well, probably almost on par with Dark Cloud, Ico, and Siren. I actually substituted Fallout 3 for Cuphead, as Cuphead definitely deserves the spot.

The soundtrack of the game is great but I don't think it's fair to pair games with fully licensed soundtracks against games were a single person composed and arranged an entire orchestra.

Guilion You mean like how good music stopped Sonic 06 from killing the entire franchise?
