On another topic. I saw this movie today: 30th anniversary. I didn't get to be there to see this movie on theaters, but they used to put it on TV often during the 90s. My mom actually brought me a batmobile from England which surprisingly were still selling years after the release. I also used to have those red virtual reality viewers. They really had some great 3D photos of all the Batman movies, and of the Ninja Turtles movie as well. It is a great movie, and I'm surprised of how many things Norton actually took from it.

Of the Burton Batman movies, this one is my favorite. I haven't seen it in eons though, so if I rewatch it, I may have a different perspective. I liked the grittiness of this film (for the time), and I absolutely loved the fight scenes. I remember everyone went ape shit crazy when people heard that Michael Keaton was going to be Batman, but the choice turned out to be a good one. This rebooted the series, and it led to amazing things like the animated series and the awesome roller coaster (which is still at Six Flags). I liked this movie a lot for a 1989 Batman movie.
Now the second one...meh. But that's for a different thread.

Thank you man. Now my previous comment applies. I just didn't have a place for it.

I wonder how you did that? That's some serious wizardry.

Such a great movie. Very good cast choices, terrific art direction (which would, in my opinion, get even better in the sequel) and soundtrack. The atmosphere and characterization in this one is just awesome, it certainly defined how Batman would be viewed by the general public since then - it's especially relevant how it managed to rescue the IP from the camp vibes of the 60's series. The comics had already gone for this serious/dark path, but outside them Batman's image was still a joke.
The script could've been a bit better, as could some plot choices (I don't like the Joker being a gangster, the killer of the Waynes and having been "created" by Batman), but generally, for the time, those choices are acceptable and the movie is still good enough. I'm between a 4 or 5, but I'll give it a 5 considering the context in which it appeared.
Also good to remember: it spawned one of the best licensed games ever, Batman NES. Those graphics and soundtrack! It was my first NES game and really showed me the capabilities of that console.

The comics had already gone for this serious/dark path, but outside them Batman's image was still a joke. I was telling people that because of that alone, this is the first legit Batman movie. Parodies don't count, which would make the first Superman, the first proper DC movie in general.

We still haven't discussed the real original Batman movie. If it hasn't been suggested yet I'm suggesting it now, the original 1966 Batman movie.
