What's the automobile I am going to discuss with the pub this week? Well, it's none other than The Homer ...the disastrous, ill-fated "monstrosity" designed by Homer Simpson himself at the request of his half-brother Herb to help his auto company. (episode: Oh Brother, Where Art Though?) It was priced at $82,000, not adjusted for inflation. Its features include: -Two separate passenger compartments shielded by glass domes -Three separate high-powered horns which all play "La Cucaracha" -Gigantic cupholders across both compartments -Shag carpeted interiors -Large tail fin -Ramps for the driver & shotgun seats (though none for the rear passengers, curiously) -Unique metal bowler hood ornament -An unusually load engine (purposely designed) Does anyone remember this remarkable automobile? What did you think when you first laid eyes on it? What do you think of it now? Has your opinion on it changed? Should it have been mass produced? If it existed IRL would you want to own one? Discuss!

Who wouldn't want a car that has a shag carpet? I mean, I do want to ride around in style.

This is one of the best of Spirit Bomb's threads because it's about the finest automobile conceived by mankind. I love how excited Homer seems to be inside the car. Also, some episodes later we learn that his brother became a bum after losing everything on the car. I'd say he made the right call, the car was just too ahead of the curve. Even nowadays some people will not understand the importance of having horns that play La Cucaracha.

I remember it had the "la cucaracha" horn, and that you could use it in Simpsons Hit&Run.

Why change your name Spirit Bomb . It is so cringy now. I decided I wanted to religiously further study the secrets of Melee, so I resigned from my position of Maestro so I could begin my private spiritual pilgrimage. I don't care what you think is cool.

While people went on with their lives and had for the most part good times, you studied the Melee. Maestro >> Monk

I wouldn't say this is a pussy magnet, but it definitely has the space to shag some.

Is that back section waterproof? I knocked up a mermaid and this would be handy for the weekends.

Can someone please explain to me why bubble domes never became the standard in automobiles? I would honestly buy a Homer JUST for the bubble domes. I also thought that having the diver & passenger seats split into two separate domes was such a neat idea. I especially dig how the rear dome is significantly more elevated than the front. It's a shame you can't find real world cars that actually feature bubble domes, separated passenger compartments, and/or elevated back seats.

That's just my guess. Plus it would get too hot in a sunny day, everyone inside would roast. But damn, it does look cool. Now that I think about it, the separated passenger compartments are great for parents whose kids are being annoying. Homer is a genious.

That's just my guess. How are bubble domes less aerodynamic than Hummer 2 & Jeep bodies? A couple half-spheres aren't going to catch nearly as much air as an oversized box like a jeep wrangler or a hummer would. On the subject of aerodynamics there are many far worse modern automotive designs in america that don't even use bubble domes.

Maybe because domes aren't commercially viable as they would be very unsafe to travel with at high speeds. What would you want to crash in? A aluminum chassis that compresses on impact to lessen your acceleration, or a glass dome that shatters glass all around you?
