I heard they are slowly becoming a toy store as well. I guess if they diversify a little, and keep closing the extra stores, they can survive for a while, but in terms of physical games it looks tough for them.

I really wonder if he has any outside of the box ideas that haven't been tried. That company is losing billions of dollars a quarter. What else can they possibly try?
Oh I know! How about good customer service without pushy sales tactics?

The chickens have come home to roost, and they want Game Stop's blood.

Who gives a shit about Reggie. That clown couldn't even save his own shitty memes from dying out. Former Nintendo fans like myself remember him for all of his lies/BS during the Wii era E3s. His own reputation is even worse than Gamestop's.

The chickens have come home to roost, and they want Game Stop's blood. What is Game Stop like in your part of the world? I've heard they're different from country to country. Are they as pushy on sales as they are here in the States? GameStop pissed me off when they bought out my beloved FuncoLand and replaced their awesomeness with shitty sales tactics for used games over new games, the retched magazine subscriptions, and their annoying club card.
When they made Xenoblade Chronicles for the Wii an exclusive there, they pissed me off to no end when they created an artificial shortage. The jackasses only had one US print, and then they had the audacity to open new copies on purpose to push them as used copies. The damn game's price shot up to ~$150 as I recall. Nintendo really fixed their crappy tactics, when they offered it digitally on the Wii U for $20. The physical copies dropped in price like a brick in the ocean after that.
GameStop really annoyed me for years. However, I started to go back when my son got into gaming on the Wii. Wii games were priced in a relatively fair manner, if you ask me. As I kept on returning, I started to really feel bad for the employees there. It wasn't their fault their management had their heads up their own asses for a decade. The regular employees were good people who really cared about gaming and returning customers. I have mixed feelings about this company, since there really isn't an alternative for this type retail in the modern world of gaming. There are some Mom and Pop stores sporadically around the city, but nothing all that great. Places like flea markets are full of get rich quick guys who charge nothing but eBay prices. Goodwill and other second hand stores have employees who pull out the good stuff for themselves, so it is impossible to find anything good in the wild these days.
I hope Reggie can fix the company. I really do. I just think he has shown up to the game a little too late. Who knows though? He may have some crazy ideas that could save the company.

The thing is that Reggie (which reminds me of Bowser) was with Nintendo during the Wii U era, while the current guy who is actually named Bowser is the guy in charge for this whole Switch era.
The Wii U did good in Japan, but not everywhere else. Reggie was not in charge of the Japanese market. He was in charge of the North America market, and he couldn't do much for the Wii U, so I doubt he being in the board will make a big difference for GameStop.
However GameStop with or without Reggie have been doing a lot of things to save the company, like closing down many unnecessary stores, and having other products to sell besides video games.
Maybe hiring Reggie is just a publicity stunt to keep investors happy, but maybe they aren't really looking for his advise, just for the prestige he brings to the company, considering he was the head of Nintendo North America for quite some time, and he is well known and respected in the industry.

I think it sucks that GameStop is going away, even though I disliked their stores. I remember very well the first time I saw GameStop opening up their first stores around in Norway, and I thought to myself that it was crazy and awesome that there existed a store that only sold games. That was seemingly impossible to me at the time. GameStop is alright, but you have to deal with their shitty sales tactics and they are obnoxious as hell. The thing with Norway is that if you want to buy games at a reasonable price and actually have a selection, GameStop will have to do. The only other option is going to general electronic stores, and those either have no selection or no competitive prices. Over the years, more and more physical media stores have closed down, and GameStop was one of the few ones left. Going there is kind of trashy but I feel like they have toned a bit down the last couple of years, especially the in 2019. I had a very pleasant experience of going there late last year. The guy throw in a couple of DLCs free of charge and everything. I think he knew that they were fucked though. Anyways, the worst experience I've had was the time we were buying multiple copies of Modern Warfare 2 to have a LAN party and the cashier wouldn't let us buy the games without that shitty game protection extended warranty. I'll always remember what he said that day: "You know when you play CoD and you lose and you get angry, then you take out the disc and break it in frustration. If you have game protection you can just come back in a get a new one. Have you ever played CoD?!?!". It was so ridiculous that we said we weren't going to buy anything if he kept up pushing that ridiculous warranty on us.

Reggie is great for their public relations, but the truth is that he can't do much with a broken company or a bad product (he couldn't save the Wii U from failing terribly). Maybe he got into the board with some new ideas, but it seems very hard to undo the damaged reputation that Gamestop already has.

Anyone hear how Gamestop tried to stay open during lockdown by arguing they're an essential service? Gamestop can't die soon enough and Reggie needs to go back into retirement.

It sounds that with the new advancements 5G will bring, streaming games may actually have a future after 2029, at which point GameStop could try to jump in, and it may be too late. It does look like Blockbuster all over again, but you never know, we are still getting a new Atari, and a new Intellivision, I think we even got a Commodore 64 Mini at some point, so brand names always have a chance to stick around for a while.
