 We definitely needed a thread for this considering how many movies we watch. Whether you buy physical or digital, you can share your latest movie purchases here. Honestly with subscriptions like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime, it was very hard justifying buying any movies at all. Recently I started buying again, particularly because I'm trying to get the best sound I can get for my home theater, and originals are definitely the way to go for that. However if you are buying digitally, I highly recommend Vudu. I honestly don't notice the difference in sound, their Atmos is fantastic, and their 5.1 sounds just like the original, so you are basically getting the real deal with them. Other than that, physical will always be the superior format, specially considering you never know when your Internet will go down. |

I actually wasn't planning on doing that, but the 4K movies I bought came with codes for movies everywhere, and when I tried them on Vudu I was blown away with the sound. I honestly had no idea streaming was capable of pulling that level of quality, but I guess I was wrong. I was particularly impressed with Man of Steel on 3D. My projector has a function to make 3D stretch to 16:9. With 2D it doesn't look right if you stretch it, but with 3D it is a total game changer. That movie looks fantastic on 3D because of that, and the sound is incredible too. I have Gravity on 3D, both physical and digital, which is another fantastic sounding movie, and I honestly don't notice the difference at all between both versions. I 100% admit my mistake of thinking digital was useless, but even the 4K movies look and sound really good, so I was clearly mistaken. |

That goes against everything cinema stands for. |

That goes against everything cinema stands for. ... or game, it does look completely unwatchable on 2D, and that's exactly why I didn't want to do it in the first place, until I tried it on 3D, and since you can't notice it unless you focus on it, weirdly, and strangely, it does play with your mind favorably to see the IMAX ratio on those movies. I don't know why, it just does. I guess it is a mental thing, and for someone as OCD as I am, I would think it would be absolutely impossible to admit such level of unevenness to even be acceptable, but it proved me wrong, just like digital copies did. |

I know this will make Balder squirm, but we just bought a bunch of Christmas movie DVDs, since they're only $5 or less. They're great for the kids, and I know they won't be touched until next season, so I really don't feel like spending more than that on The Grinch or Frosty the Snowman. |

I know this will make Balder squirm, but we just bought a bunch of Christmas movie DVDs, since they're only $5 or less. They're great for the kids, and I know they won't be touched until next season, so I really don't feel like spending more than that on The Grinch or Frosty the Snowman. I do watch DVDs as I still go to the library to pick some up, however, buying DVDs in the 2020's... That's not something I thought would still be going on. We're two formats ahead and they still sell brand new movies on DVDs. It literally is the format that won't die. Anyways, I completely understand buying kids/family movies from the bargain bin. |

It's hard not to love physical media because it is nice having the covers and everything, so I don't blame them.
It is probably a similar feeling our grandparents had collecting thriller, and crime books.

In Japan they still sell a lot of high quality DVDs. Most JAV is basically on DVD, but somehow it has Blu-Ray quality. The format just doesn't die. It's hard not to love physical media because it is nice having the covers and everything, so I don't blame them. Just in case there's any doubt at all in that I supposedly don't care about quality, here's a list of all of my movies, a lot of which are on a boutique label, meaning they are of the highest quality in terms of mastering (Criterion, Arrow Video/Academy, Eureka: Masters of Cinema, Artificial Eye). That's a really nice collection Balder. Do you keep the cases? Some people don't. I personally like the covers. I no longer have my regular Blu-Rays. I gave them away, but I always liked to keep them with the box. The few 4K ones I have are still with the box. I even have Red Sparrow on a steelbook case, since that's the only way I found it. |

Throwing away the covers would defeat a lot of the purpose in collecting for me. Of course I keep all of the cases. |
