May of been one of the most disappointing movies ofthat era and of all time. It was a very generic story line that we've seen a thousands times wrapped in complete overhype. Save the planet form the big evil business men with a love story thrown in.
A lot of lough out loud cringe moments that was supposed to be taken seriously. And the visuals weren't even that impressive even for the time. Worse now because the use of colours is overkill.

I really don't understand the hate this movie generates. All people say about it is how rated it is. Can a movie be overrated if everyone says it's overrated? Perhaps when the movie came out it was overrated, but it's been a long time since we lived in 2009. The story is nothing special, I get it. And I too, very much would have liked the military to win like Mark, however, the technological breakthroughs this movie had is not something to overlook. Not only did it revolutionize the way movies are made, it also revolutionized the way we watch movies. Sure, 3D is not most people's cup of tea, and while it started a fad in movie making, making lame 3D movies, it did force cinemas to upgrade their projector. This is not something everyone knows, but if a cinema wanted to screen Avatar in 3D, it had to have a modern projector, which was super beneficial to movie goers years after Avatar faded. The movie also looks great, come on guys, you have got to give it that. It might also still be the best 3D movie ever made, which doesn't say a whole lot, but it's worth mentioning. Now I don't understand why the legendary James Cameron wants to waste the rest of his movie making career on only making Avatar sequels, but I guess it's better than getting nothing.

I've always thought of Avatar as a Pocahontas remake, but comparing it to FernGully is on another level of uncanny.

There was like a BILLION spent on CGI for this film, but between this and your average Xbox 360 game, I couldn't tell the difference. I even read a news report at the time, saying someone suicided because they couldn't go to Pandora. And yeah, you can be dazzled by the visuals for a while, but it didn't compensate for the story. If Sam Worthington was meant to be some kind of ambassador, then why a marine? He should have been a proper diplomat looking for a way for Space Corp and Indian Smurf to benefit. In the end, he needlessly betrayed his own side. And the Corp just went ahead and blew up the forests anyway, making the Avatar program pointless. But who cares? Look at the pretty colours! Yeah, it's overrated. The hype was paid for.

I don't think the real problem is with the movie being bad, it's more about it being the most forgettable thing. And it's not just the story, but even its main feature, the CGI: it was very advanced and certainly well made, but the art design itself was just mediocre. When I think about the battles in the Lord of the Rings movies, I can still remember how good they looked due to the design of the creatures, the settings and a few memorable actions done by the characters; but Avatar, with much more advanced CGI, showed battles that I can barely remember, there's not a single moment from those battles that felt special (I'm really struggling to remember any particular scene). Maybe that's why I feel the same as centipede: the movie ended up being, to me, just a higher-definition cutscene of an average Xbox 360 game from that time.

I wouldn't say this is the best 3D movie ever made, I like so many 3D movies more than Avatar. It is still a pretty movie to watch, eye candy you can say, whether is 3D or that non official HDR version fans made. After all, it comes from the creator of The Terminator, Terminator 2, and Aliens, so you can't go wrong about that. I imagine the so called Galactic Federation pushes Hollywood with their agendas, so if they are planning more sequels it is because they have something to say besides everything already said on shows like Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., or even stuff like Jupiter Ascending. I remember this being a Fox movie, but somehow it feels like something Disney. However it is very clear that just by looking at the art style this movie has, it was heavily inspired by psychedelic experiences which can be direct biological connections to a higher entity, here called Pandora, and I imagine the whole gimmick will likely be part of the sequels as well. Like Cervantes said, the movie is very forgettable. I have played it more than once along the years, and I still can't remember any significant details of the movie. I would give the movie 8.8, but just because I give it a high rating it doesn't mean it is a favorite of mine, there are many many many movies I would give much lower ratings that I like a lot more.

Aliens = military propaganda Avatar = space colonization propaganda James Cameron is a quintessential mega-rich, all-american, first-world lunatic. Fuck these mega-rich, first-world, space-age pigs like James Cameron, Elon Musk, and Jeff Bezos. These whack-jobs have never had to live sustainably and don't give a shit about the future of Earth. James Cameron himself even admitted that he made Avatar just so that he could make more money to fund his personal projects like his Mariana trench dive and his space ventures. Avatar has absolutely nothing to do with the environment. And the ending reminded me of the pilgrims' Thanksgiving with the indians: The happy ending is just a guise for a planetary invasion plot. If the Navi asked those humans to leave, they never would. Avatar 2's plot should be about the human protagonists from the first film stealing the Navi's land after celebrating the defeat of that military corporation, because that's EXACTLY what I have always expected to happen after the credits roll; the aliens get stabbed right in the back and robbed of everything. If those humans really cared about the aliens, then they would have just admitted that they were wrong and left their planet in peace. Fuck Avatar, fuck Aliens, fuck James Cameron, and fuck american society for producing this shit. This space-age insanity is even stupider than Star Wars and makes my brain hurt just trying to think about it.

Well, after a decade of development hell, it looks like Avatar 2 is coming out in December. To absolutely 0 of my clucks given.
