Some movies.
He was great in the first Terminator movie but the reality is that he didn't get cast in villainous roles nearly enough, unless you count studio crap like Batman and Robn. His physique doesn't lend itself to protagonist roles very well. That's why so many of his movies feel so cheesy, since you have what is essentially a stacked, daunting alpha male as the "good guy" instead of an average-joe underdog rising to the challenge. He literally looks like an action figure, so the villains never seemed intimidating next to him, except maybe the Predator. This is why I believe Schwarzenegger was so overused in Hollywood. Instead of dedicating himself to henchmen roles in acclaimed series like James Bond similar to what other oversized actors like Richard Kiel and (coincidentally) Gotz Otto did, but Schwarzenegger decided to soak up the sun like an egomaniacal asshole by overselling himself instead. What a pig.
It's a similar problem I have with Bruce Campbell. Instead of auditioning for old-timey mid-atlantic villainous or rogue roles like Cal in Titanic, Brom Van Brunt in Sleepy Hollow, or Rick O'Connell in The Mummy, he had to be a delusional asshole by saying to himself "Nah, I'm far too great of a role model for my fellow americans to have myself cast as a villain or a rogue.". What an asshole. It's a shame since I'm absolutely sure he could've fit the roles of Brom and O'Connell better than (coincidentally) Casper Van Dien or Brendan Fraiser. He really shot himself in the foot by saying no to auditions for villainous roles since all of these movies turned out to be huge box office smashes. I hate how these macho men like Schwarzenegger and Campbell have "too much pride" to audition for villainous roles because they actually see themselves as good guys and role models IRL. What a bunch of delusional gutter-grade assholes.
And the real thing to remember about Schwarzenegger is that he wasn't even naturally huge like Richard Kiel or Gotz Otto, either. He was a fake asshole who cheated fate by abusing steroids just to get to the top. I have absolutely no respect for Schwarzenegger. Like I said, he was just a fake asshole who abused steroids just to cash in on the body building craze of the 80s, a fad which he helped spill over into the 90s.
Oh, and I saw this video a few days ago:
That's another reason to lose all respect for bodybuilders. They're all a bunch of fake assholes nowadays.
So, no. I don't think Arnold automatically makes movies better, just like he didn't make the state of California better. In fact, he helped ruin a lot of movies which I thought had potential.
Also, in both bodybuilding and acting, everyone was using steroids to get to the top. Any top bodybuilder during Arnold’s reign in the 70s was using steroids. Any top bodybuilder after Arnold uses steroids. Big Ramy. Ronnie Coleman. Jay Cutler. Dorian Yates. All of them are on steroids. Even Stallone was on steroids. That was the look of the bankable 80s action Star back then. Huge muscles was what the people wanted.
But really, the numbers don’t lie. Look at the money Arnold’s movies made. From the mid 80s to the mid 90s, he was by far the biggest star in the world. Yes he had a couple of flops, but who doesn’t. Arnold was a money printing machine.
Also, don’t talk shit about Bruce Campbell. He’s one of the nicest celebrities you could ever hope to meet. He’s great in everything he does and always treats his fans well. Put some respect on Bruce, god dammit.
Well, The Great Gama and Jackie Chan are two of the most revered strong men to have ever existed, and they never abused steroids. Bruce Lee gets an honorable mention, too.
All these dudes were all-natural macho. The Great Gama might have been born before steroids were a fad, but Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee weren't and they chose not to use them. Why the HELL shouldn't these guys deserve more respect than all the fakes of Hollywood like Arnold and Stallone? They weren't about steroids and fake muscles. They were about FIGHTING and MARTIAL ARTS. They had BALLS.
Hell, most far-east strong men don't use steroids to get buff, at least that's what I've noticed. I think the real reason you see so many macho men in western countries like the U.S. is purely because of steroids letting people cheat to procure an atypically buff body, and their desire for steroids is fueled by their nationalism, impatience (think "fast food"), and laziness. I think if you took steroids away from americans, the real, actual number of macho men would be WAY lower, and probably would be comparable to the number of most asian and european countries. I KNOW americans. They're way too lazy to spend that much time at the gym.
Americans, man. So fake. So lazy. So arrogant. So ignorant.
I've also noticed that you tend to gloss over all these legendary far-east warriors in favor of all of the WWE & Hollywood fakes that use steroids. What the hell, Cobretti? Show some respect for the REAL warriors, not that fake WWE shit.
Bruce Campbell is a fun actor, but the fact that his pride prevented him from being cast as a villain shows what kind of person he is. Other oversized macho men like Christopher Lee, Vincent Price, Richard Keil and Gotz Otto accepted their villainous roles with joy and dignity. Whenever a studio asked to cast them as the bad guy, they complied. Those are the guys I respect, not Arnold and Campbell.
Oh and Stallone, too. The only film I remember him playing a villain in was that kiddy-crap turd of a film Spy Kids 3D. Stallone's stature and snarling face is PERFECT for villainous roles. This man is MADE for villainous roles. But he chose not to accept any! Again, this is another example of an oversized american nationalist who has too much pride to see himself portraying a villain, so for that reason he got WAY more work in film than he deserved and hogged up Hollywood. What a pretentious pussy. I'm glad I haven't seen most of his films. The hilarious thing is that most of Stallone's films tanked at the box office and received scathing reviews. In fact, Stallone holds the distinction of being the most nominated actor in Golden Raspberries history. Serves him right, he's a lame actor and a pretentious macho man. Maybe if he had manned up and played more villains I would actually watch his movies.
