I'm going for an achievement in the Master Chief Collection which is to play all of the campaigns from CE, 2, 3 and 4 consecutively. I marathoned Halo 2 today, and I have to say: Halo 2's campaign is actually more fun than CE's. A lot of the missions I used to hate such as The Arbiter,The Oracle, Sacred Icon, Quarantine Zone and Gravemind, ended up being great. CE on the other hand, reminded me of how much I hate missions like Two Betrayals and Keyes. I still love CE's campaign, but I think I now prefer Halo 2's. So you weren't bothered by the fact that 75% of the campaign was a corridor shooter? Or that the outdoor sections are still nowhere near as large as CE's? Or that it has an underwhelming climax? Go play Two Betrayals again in CE. It's terrible and boring. Now go play Gravemind on Halo 2. It's large, fantastic and gives you a sense of openness and epicness. The last mission (The Great Journey) in Halo 2 is one of my all time favorite missions, while The Maw is good, the driving is kind of outdated and totally eclipsed by Halo 3's final mission (Halo). |

So you weren't bothered by the fact that 75% of the campaign was a corridor shooter? Or that the outdoor sections are still nowhere near as large as CE's? 1: Go play Two Betrayals again in CE. It's terrible and boring. 2: Now go play Gravemind on Halo 2. Halo CE rehashes two missions: Assault on the Control Room and Two Betrayals; Truth and Reconciliation and Keyes are basically the same missions rehashed with Flood added. |

It's difficult to know where to go on some parts of Two Betrayals. |

I'm playing through Halo 2 on Heroic difficulty right now, and you know what? I have been way too hard on this game. It's better than I gave it credit for. While the size of the levels is scaled down significantly, and even though I don't like the new vehicles physics that much, I don't think most of the changes were objectively bad. The gunplay is every bit as good as CE's, and all the new weapons add a great deal of variety. The beamrifle is one of my favorite weapons in the entire series. And some of the multiplayer maps are absolutely outstanding, specifically Lockout which is easily one of my favorite Halo maps.
So while Halo 2 may not be as groundbreaking or polished as CE, it's still a damn good shooter, and better in certain areas than CE. 8.5/10.

I didn't enjoy my first playthrough of it that much but I enjoy it a lot more a second time around. I like the increased difficulty, added weapons, and new vehicles. I always wanted to drive a wraith in CE and Halo 2 let's me do it. So Halo 2 really wasn't a complete downgrade like I previously implied. |

You know what? Fuck it, I'm bumpin my score up to 10/10. Halo 2 might not be an objectively perfect game or even the best Halo game, but it has just about everything I look for in a good console shooter. Playing it again makes me realize that Halo 3 is really the most disappointing Halo game, but even that one is a 10/10 masterpiece in my book as well.
I gotta say though, I'm not a fan of Halo 2's legendary difficulty. I'm playing it on legendary for the first time right now and it's just downright cruel. I'm not even sure I'll be able to finish it.

You know what? Fuck it, I'm bumpin my score up to 10/10. Halo 2 might not be an objectively perfect game or even the best Halo game, but it has just about everything I look for in a good console shooter. Playing it again makes me realize that Halo 3 is really the most disappointing Halo game, but even that one is a 10/10 masterpiece in my book as well. I gotta say though, I'm not a fan of Halo 2's legendary difficulty. I'm playing it on legendary for the first time right now and it's just downright cruel. I'm not even sure I'll be able to finish it. Halo 2 is a 10/10 for sure. Playing on Legendary? Kudos dude. Halo 2 is without a doubt the hardest Halo game. |

You know, playing the campaign again for a third time, Halo 2's multiplayer maps feel like a missed opportunity. There are a bunch of environments in the campaign that could've been converted into amazing multiplayer maps with little effort, like the one during the penultimate fight with Tartarus in the Control Room.
I still haven't beaten the game on Legendary. Talk about an undertaking! Jackels being able to OHKO with beam rifles is just pure BS.
