I have been watching Adam Korliak's generation series and thought I would ask the CGR forum what gen they think is the best.
I think 7th because it was so damn long, I got a ps2 in 2005 at the age of 7 and didn't enter the 7th gen until 2011 with my Black 360 and Wii. But it felt like that gen would never end. in 2012 my brother started talking about the ps4 and Xbox 720 and I mainly dismissed the idea based on the grounds that the games looked fine still. And they still do look fine, i could still sit down and play Halo Reach or Forza 3 without a second thought given to graphics. The same can't be said for some of the Murky dark FPS games like cold winter I played on my old PS2.

I'm not sure if threads could get merged. I would have to ask Balder if maybe he can do it. As far as the best gen. There is something to be said about the 7th gen and the ability to compile all previous gen big titles in the same system. Also the point of how long it was is also valid. However it is clear all gens have been good and have their own characteristics that make them awesome. So like I said on the other thread it is hard to just pick one. 8th gen is the one that will introduce virtual reality, so that's a big step forward just like the N64 and the 5fth gen introduced 3D rendered graphics. If I absolutely have to choose it would definitely be the 4rd gen but it would be just for nostalgia reasons considering the 2nd gen, 3rd gen, and 5th gen have all groundbreaking tittles too. Although if you consider the Neo Geo, the 4th gen has been the longest so far lasting 14 years. The 6th gen is when we saw the biggest amount of titles, and the last generation where games came complete out of the box. Konami, Sega, Nintendo, and Capcom were really killing it, and we saw once more the monster genius designers they always were until that point. Nintendo did continue with the quality, but Capcom and Konami followed with a more Sega hit or miss approach after that.

Thank you for adding the 6th gen! Woot! It's my absolute favorite console generation. My second favorite is the 4th gen. Can't go wrong with the Sega Genesis.

The way I interpret it the "5th" generation in this poll would be equivalent to the 32/64 bit generation that includes but isn't limited to 32X, Jaguar 64, PlayStation, Saturn, N64, Game Boy Advance, DS and Nokia N-Gage? Either way the one representing 32X and PlayStation is my favorite and I'm voting "5th" as that seems to be the correct one based on what has been said in other posts.

I agree with scipioafricanus and since 7th gen hasn't got any votes, I vote for that one.

7th Gen because it is the prime time for action games, fighting games and racing games. I thought the 4th or 5th gen was the era of fighting games? I know that the fighting game genre saw a resurgence in popularity during the 7th gen, but I'm pretty sure that the 4th and 5th gens (5th gen in particular) had an unmatched number of fighting games released.

I know that the fighting game genre saw a resurgence in popularity during the 7th gen, but I'm pretty sure that the 4th and 5th gens (5th gen in particular) had an unmatched number of fighting games released. 4th and 5th gen were the infant days of fighting games, when they were just breaking into the market. Some good came from those days, and some bad. The bad is there were many clones. The good is obscured to me because i wasn't alive back then Fighting games until SF4 were not optimized for competition, they had clunky mechanics (With the exception of 3rd Strike) and were not accessible. from 2004 to 08 the genre was in a decline until SF4 came and injected new blood into the, then 'dying' genre. The problem back then may have been that each game was a little bit 'same-y' and there were no fresh ideas, and once again there was the lack of competitive scene. Since SF4, every fighting game is unique, fresh and deep while retaining the accessibility factor. EVO2k16 was broadcasting on ESPN, though personally, i think the genre as it stands, is on the niche side of things. Nowadays, we have; Tekken, SF, Virtua Fighter, Guilty Gear, BlazBlue, Persona Arena, Dead or Alive, Mortal Kombat, Soul Caliber, King of Fighters. Each of these games is mechanically and aesthetically different.
