You know, third party consoles that are designed to play PS2 or Xbox games (or possibly both), like the FC Twin or Retron consoles? Do you think this will happen? Do you want this to happen?
Honestly I pray every night that this will happen, because my PS2 recently broke, and there are only so many PS2s left in the world. ;_;

and there are only so many PS2s left in the world. ;_; Only so many original PS3 systems and those break like hell and didn't sell well yet I still can buy a refurb one at a decent price. I don't think the most popular game system in existence will run dry anytime soon. (Unless GameStop successfully corners the market with their ps2 TRADE IN BONANZA!)

All the 7th gen consoles had bad build quality. Well mainly ps3 and 360 cant speak for the wii. I still have a fat ps3 and it still works but its going to go any day now. I've had it since 2008 and have never had a problem with it until it overheated one day. Now it struggles to stay on and shuts off whenever it wants when it wants and the only thing keeping that thing alive anymore is hope. Hope that this system stays alive long enough for me to get a replacement.
I am done with modern console gaming though. I cant keep dealing with all the bullshit that associates itself on those systems. Last console I will ever buy will be the ps3. Unless the nx turns out to be good then maybe I'll reconsider.

I think we're probably good on PS2 supplies for a while. Actually I have an extra one Maestro. If you'd like, I can confirm it is working, and ship it to you at cost, but I don't imagine you'd have any trouble finding one locally for less than the shipping would be. But sure, 10-20 years down the line, it would be nice to see a repro console, or maybe just an authorized emulator to play the legitimate discs on PC, since there are unauthorized emulators that do that now

There will always be a way to play physical games... until they eventually break. But by that point, emulators will be the way to go.

I'm waiting to see if someone does a clone of the PlayStation/Saturn/N64. At this point, someone could legally do it if they wanted to.

Honestly every one should have a Hyperspin. You have access to all the obscure games, all the obscure consoles, and there are always controller options for PC that look exactly like the originals that you can map. Or you can just use the DS4 which is the best controller ever made. And it all fits in a 2TB external hard drive. Also if you can hook up your PC to a CRT is even better, I just haven't figured out how or if it is even possible. I have a 24 inch Trinitron in my garage that could use some love.

I know it's supposed to be illegal, but for the preservation of the cultural historic relevance of those games I say that. Not to mention how much fun you can have with all those games that depriving people from having access to them feels like a sin. Plus I'm sure the creators would want their games to be played by the biggest amount of people regardless of the monetary incentive that at this point probably doesn't even go to them anymore in most cases. The Hyperspin holds fine emulations from different ages, even Taito Type X2 which is a 7th gen platform. With the latest gens it really comes down to the graphics power of you computer. But most normal computers would do just fine all the way to the 5th gen at least. I mean besides with the originals, how else are you going to play Karnov, Jaws, Monster Party, or A Nightmare In Elm Street? Most games are not yet available virtually anywhere.

Yeah stratogustav, there comes a point where it's no longer piracy, but a way to preserve old games to not make them forgotten.

I do want it to happen, but I think it may still take some years. As the others have said, until then we at least have pretty good emulation for the PS2 and Gamecube (Xbox isn't so lucky).

I thought emulation was getting pretty robust for the Saturn, at least.

Xboxes seem to be breaking all over the place and my own is one of them so yeah I'd love third party clones that are identical to the originals as long as they're not missing features or have downgrades, same goes for PS2 and any other console the original makers have abandoned for that matter.

I would SO love for new OG Xboxs to be made, but only if the build quality/design is at the very least "acceptable". I'm still mad that the majority of Xbox titles can't be played on a 360. Seriously, this needs to happen.

I think the technology in the 6th gen consoles is too complicated to be replicated !! Wasn't the full breakdown and hacking of the Saturn something that happened less than a month ago? 20 years later after it came out and saw its successor. Generally, i think its going to keep getting complicated the more that consoles live on.
