If that's too much of an investment... there's always Metal Gear...  or even Ikaruga ! (still waiting on a score to try and beat btw...) Gustavo Shepard LOL! Isn't Shepard supposed to be a major douche? Yes, Metal Gear I'll do. I will finish Ground Zeroes before Survive comes out. And Amazon just send me a text Ikagura is on its way. I can't wait. |

You can have sex in all three games (I've did it all three times).
The first one everyone says is the hardest to get into. And I agree to a point, but it's also the one with the best story.
The second one everyone agrees is the best one. It has the best characters and best missions. And the combat has been improved heavily.
The third one perfected the combat, didn't have many interesting new characters, and the ending took a misstep.
All in all, if you like a story driven game, don't let this trilogy pass on you.

I noticed Mass Effect when it came out for the 360, and thought it looked interesting. Being a PS3 owner put the embargo on playing it. Same situation resulted for Mass Effect 2. But then Bioware was bought by EA, and EA loves money. So along comes a port of ME2 with all the DLC for PS3. I try out the demo from PSN, and I have no idea what to expect: a short mission, tutorial, etc. I start out with the Normandy (your ship from Mass Effect) exploring a system, and oh look a strange ship… OH CRAP EVERYTHING IS ON FIRE, AND I HAVE TO RUN AROUND A BURNING HULK TRYING TO GET SETH GREEN OUT ON AN ESCAPE POD!!!
And spoiler alert, you don’t make it. You save Joker (voiced by Seth Green), but you are blown out into space with you suit leaking. Yep, you die in the first 5 minutes in the game. Wow, now that is how to start a demo.

scipioafricanus Mass Effect 2 has the best start to any videogame. You just fucking die in the first 5 minutes.

ME1-Plot, ME2-Storytelling, ME3-Gameplay.
Full disclosure: ME2 is my favorite of the series. Character development, art direction, team interaction... all top notch. There is not one moment where I say, "ugh, I have to go through this mission..."
ME1 has its limitations. Every time you set down on a planet there are 1 of 2 indoor maps. If I had to find all those resources with the Mako on my own (thank the Lord for the wiki), I would have gone nuts! The combat and power use is quite clunky. The upgrade/gear use can get overwhelming with stuff you will never use.
That being said, I have played through it 4 times with the trilogy, and will do so again. The small issues do not get in the way of a great start. But occasionally when in combat, I can't wait to start ME2.
ME3 is more of the same with ME2, just more polished: Combat is smoother, follower AI is better, cut-scenes flawless.
My recommendation for people that are curious about ME: play 2, 3, then 1 if you liked them. Never, EVER start with 3 first.

Only played ME 2. I liked the characters in that one, as a matter of fact I liked them so much that I took my sweet time doing side-quests near the end and it resulted in all of my crew being killed.
Needless to say I didn't play the third one.

Only cause of my own one. It includes the whole trilogy and all the DLC (free & paid), plus a Platinum trophy recognition for excellence. So that would make mine Massiver.
I need both hands to use it though...
