Game Discussion of The Week: Mass Effect Series

I thought you had sex while playing the game.

Well kids shouldn't be playing the game anyways. It's rated M for mature. I'm sure many kids did get around to playing it though, just like how so many of us grew up on R rated movies.

It's not; I respected the original ending.  If you paid attention to the series from the beginning, the ending shouldn't surprise you.

An old Angry Joe video sums up the grievances in all his bellicose spoilerific geekyness. Watch only if you don't intend on playing.

I for one never agreed with any of it. I liked the ending.
Although, I can almost understand the callow juvenile anguish of people being denied their own fanciful, frivolously indulgent expectations.

What you need to understand about the ME franchise is that it is not 3 separate self contained games - Choices made in one carry over and affect in the next, so the trilogy can essentially be viewed as one continuous flowing story with each game blending into the next.

So when taken as a trilogy -especially with the universally acclaimed highpoint success that was ME2- the franchise as a whole is still remembered fondly by the gaming masses  , and so is a bona-fide established (and therefore milkable) IP.

Hence the inevitable follow up that will sell by reputation alone.
Although for how long the name can carry sub-par inferiority is anyone's guess.

I haven't gotten the new Andromeda amidst all the prolific complaints, I admit.
Inevitably somewhere down the line I will, but it is not a priority just now.
(Cause Nier's the best. There's even a character (9S) that uses the end of my name in it !! )

I am playing it now, and I am enjoying it.  The problems that people say the game has, I haven't been really bothered by them or noticed them.

I take a lot of the smartass dialogues, and so far it is great and quite funny.  Finding Mass Effect Easter eggs are fun too.

I got ME 2 for free recently, but still haven't found time to play it. By the way, should I play the first game before it? It seems they are deeply connected storywise (I haven't played any of them).
