We had a thread like this in the previous forums and I want to revive it here.
What's the incentive to buy a PS4? I'm going to need a current gen home console to play Yooka-Laylee later this year and I selected for the Wii U version. I've had a change of heart after getting the feeling the Wii U will die out and am looking to potentially change my ballot over to the Sony side. Right now, my primary motivation for doing so is Yakuza 5. I haven't played any in the series but I figure this won't be a bad place to start should I get into it, especially considering how hard the original 2 are to find and how much the franchise needs monetary support. Plus, for all the hand-biting done by the fanbase, Sega really comes through for the niche market I like to think myself a part of.
Here's my other thinking: since I don't have a PS3, it may be worth skipping over straight to the console with seemingly greater longevity.
So what's your pitch for me and others to consider buying a PS4?

But I thought yakuza 5 was only on the ps3 as a downloadable game. I actually have yakuza 2 for the ps2 just not the first one. I also have yakuza 4.

Yakuza 5... Pssh... That's a kid's game. Like aminey? Like shooting gheymes? Like rohbats?
EDF 4.1 - The official CGR game. Which you can only play on PlayStation 4. You're not a real CGR man until you have this game. Everyone get this and we'll make a team. Hopefully we can meet our Lord and go to Valhalla together on the battlefield!
Otherwise... Galak-Z! Old school mecha anime meets Battlestar Galactica meets metroidvania in space! What's more awesome than that?!? (other than EDF 4.1) Gonna download mah copy today actually...

Yakuza is not a kids game. I switched to PC at the end of the 7th gen and plan on staying on that throughout the whole 8th gen.

As mentioned, Yakuza 5 is a PS3 downloadable-only game in the west. Yakuza 0 is coming to the west on the PS4, but not until 2017. That said, a used PS3 is pretty inexpensive if you want to try Yakuza 5... As for the PS4, Leaon has already covered EDF Beyond that, there are seemingly fewer and fewer things to distinguish to major consoles from one another, or recommend them over a mid-range gaming PC connected up to your television. I ultimately picked one up for a few reasons: 1. I tend to use laptops, which are fine for retro games, or games that are a few years old, but couldn't really be considered even a mid-range gaming PC. My Steam library are mostly retro games of of one sort or another. 2. For brand new games, I've had too many friends purchase a game at full price on PC, and despite having excellent systems, having to do a ton of work to get a new game to run properly. With a console, I still might have to endure updates, but I've never run into that level of problem. 3. Lack of interest in mods for most games. 4. Because of PSN Plus, I already had about two dozen games of various types for the system, so I had a lot to play right out of the gate. 5. I found a decent price on a used console ($100 less than retail, and with 3 controllers, one of which I sold). I would definitely encourage you to keep an eye out on craigslist or similar sites, as I quite often see similar deals. 6. The controllers are more comfortable that previous iterations of the Dual Shock line, make great PC controllers with very little setup, and are compatible with both the PS3 and PSTV. That said, the battery life on them is fairly terrible compared to the Dual Shock 3's, even with the higher capacity batteries I installed. Games are a bit harder, since there are so many different tastes. I've been playing MGSV The Phantom Pain lately, which I'm...oddly enjoying more as a stealth/puzzle game than as a Metal Gear entry. Galak-Z is definitely fun, as Leaon mentioned. I picked up one of the Shantae games recently, which I think I'll likely play after MGSV as a palette cleaner. Bloodborne seems to be the big exclusive of this last year if you liked the Dark Souls games, but I have not given it a try. Since the PS4 has been out for 2 years now, there are a fair variety of used physical games around for you to sample, and the PSN store has some pretty decent sales on a regular basis. All that said, I may not be the best salesman for the PS4, as I'm still bouncing around between a half dozen systems and occasionally my PC between games. Keep in mind too, if your primary motivation is to buy Yooka-Laylee, an early Wii U 'death' might benefit you, since you can even now find Wii Us very inexpensively.

Honestly PS3 is where is still at, I use a DualShock 4 20th Anniversary Edition on it, the wireless works pretty well, it's missing the 8-way D-pad on fighting games, but that's why we have fightsticks anyway, the rumble doesn't work either, neither does play Sony games, but other than that you can play anything with it and still enjoy the games because the controller is very good and it makes you no want to go back, I like the grip. I also use it for PC games as well, including emulators.
There is no need to buy a PS4 right now, everything I like or want is still on the PS3 right now. The only game I would get a PS4 for as of right now is Mortal Kombat X, so I will just wait longer because I'm just fine with the PS3 alone, all the good titles including Resogun are still there, so there is no need to upgrade, at least not until Gran Turismo Sport, The King Of Fighters XIV, Tekken 7, Street Fighter V, Ace Combat 7, etc. start coming out, and the new system will finally start to feel like an actual system. So far it still feels like just a bunch of promises even though it came out 3 years ago.
(Edit: the PS4 I was playing really belonged to my brother and we no longer share the same house, I now only have left the DualShock 4 20th Anniversary Edition with me, and that's good enough right now, I will upgrade until the good games besides Mortal Kombat X and Bloodborne come out).

I tried my DualShock4s on the PS3, but wasn't entirely happy with it. I do find it more comfortable than the DualShock 3, but the lack of rumble and the PS button not working were both annoying. That said, I don't have a second PS3 controller, so it is nice when someone is over for a multiplayer game. Previously, I'd had the second player use a PS2 controller with a USB adapter But yeah, I switched from DS3 to DS4 for my PSTV and it has been quite enjoyable, and the DS4 is now my preference for most console-style games on my PC now, replacing the Wii U Pro Controller (which itself replaced the Xbox 360 controller).

Incentives to buy a Ps4 are realistically non-existent, unless you skipped a generation, which is teddykongcountry's situation, right? You see, things... happened for consoles this last generation, more on the Ps3 side, but that's an understatement. Ps3 got so many games that even in terms of ideas there wasn't much left for Ps4, so when people think of EDF 4.1 they're thinking of an expansion of a Ps3/360 game. So when you think of what the Ps4 can provide that previous systems don't, then you are thinking of very specific situations such as professional fighting games player who needs to keep training to win competitions, or the guy who earns his dough through youtube or streaming services. But again, teddykongcountry, you missed out on Ps3, so a Ps4 may be interesting. I'm not saying you will play the best Ps3 or 360 games via re-releases on Ps4 because nothing has been announced regarding that so far, but some publisher is sure to release cool stuff in the future.

I must be missing something in that I thought Yakuza 5 had a dual release on PS4 and PS3. Well looks like they'll have to bring the HD remaster for 1 and 2 to really sell me. Unfortunately, I don't know what to expect of the PS4 aside from being a hub for indies. EDF sounds great especially after the great Lord Karnage praised it so heavily but bugs and I don't get along too well. I liked Jet Force Gemini strangely enough though, it must be the polygons.
You're right, spider shinobi, in that I missed out on the PS3 generation and the more likely longevity of the PS4 is what makes me want to stick it out. We both shared input on a topic from the not-so-old forums about both preferring to feel that our money is going toward the company that brought us said product and buying a preowned PS3 helps no one, especially me considering the livelihood of something preowned.
Also, I was saddened when you referenced Galak-Z, leaon79s, in that by first instinct was to search for the vault page on it :...(

I bought a DualShock 4 just because it was a good controller, and I needed something not-crap to test River City Ransom Underground with. I have no interest in getting a PS4 or an Xbone, thanks to what is the modern game scene. PSWii60 is where I stopped.

Mister Xiado One of the things I enjoy most about the DualShock 4 when using it as a PC controller is the ability to turn that front LED off. I was amazed how much that increases that battery life.

The only reason to buy it is for the best version of MGSV-- and even that's a multiplatform sequel. I'm sorry, but HD remakes/re-releases and sequels just don't cut it for this OG game player. If I'm going to drop hundreds of dollars on a new console I want value for my money-- and that value to me is unique, innovative exclusive titles. You could say that Playstations 1-3 had that (although PS3 started this 'HD remake' nonsense), but the current iteration is just another black box competing with another black box. As far as I'm concerned, there has to be more to a new video game 'generation' than just better graphics and I'm not seeing it.
But I'm not totally jaded-- I like what I see from Nintendo thus far in the form of Mario Maker, Wonderful 101 and Xenoblade Chronicles. Plus the fact that they support full backwards compatibility without trying to re-sell us titles from the generation that JUST PASSED means that, whether it's their intention or not, they seem to be respecting me as a consumer much more. I just don't get why people like uninspired rehashes (no, I'm not getting into a discussion of The Force Awakens here!). I'm no businessperson, but take a risk as a company and, even if it fails commercially, I'll personally respect you for doing so.

I see where you're coming from but as it stands, the PS4 does have plenty of interesting games for it that may or may not be available on other platforms i.e. Steam/XB1 but they also have the best controller in the business. The Wii U on the other hand is a clunky mess with wires and extra controllers, it might be the next 32X!
Just some other titles I've noticed worth consideration -Shadow Warrior -EDF -Nobunaga's Ambition -Disgaea 5 -Tales of Zestiria -Wolfenstein -Rocket League -Bloodborne -Rayman Legends -Resogun
And that's just the start with this console. The Wii U is on its last, slow haul out with a line-up of primarily platformers and party games. Microsoft isn't too happy with their XBox1 either.
