Final Fantasy II (PSP version) played on the Vita and PSTV I'm glad I finally played through this, but I am happy to be done with it. It was nice to the origin of some long-running series elements (Dragoons, Cid, Chocobos, etc), and it was nice to have some named characters with more of a backstory after playing FF1. However, the game grindy as all heck, and it is easy to see why the series hadn't returned to that system for stat increases. yeah i could never get into the more "Experimental" games in the series such as FF2, 3, 5, 9 and hated everything after 10. Final Fantasy is at its best when It's straight forward and simple traditional RPG. Good that you finished it, though. I could never get myself to finish all those i mentioned.

How many hours did it take you to beat the game through all that grinding? I've been tempted to play these, but the grinding takes up way too much of my time. I was trying to over level myself in VI years ago, and my wife was watching me. In a blunt fashion, she asked, "how is this fun again?" I see her point, but what about trouncing the high level enemies like a god later on?

I think it was about 18 hours total start to finish. My strategy was mostly to level spells while walking from area to area, and then level weapons while I dungeons to conserve MP, and that seemed to work.
One downside though is that if you want to do the 'Soul of Rebirth' post-game, you have to make sure and level up magic for some of the rotating 4th party members as they're the only ones you have in that section. I opted not to do so, as I wasn't too I interested in the extra content.
One workaround for the main game is that most enemies, including most bosses, are not immune to the 'Teleport' white magic, which is an insta-kill. If you focus on leveling that up, it is quite the shortcut

dschult3 Your story about over-leveling in FFVI reminded me of something as well. The last time I played it in full with the GBA version 10+ years ago. I worked a job with a lot of downtime then, so I'd often break it out to kill time. This was the first time that I'd really...not just over-leveled the party, but paid very close attention to which Espers were equipped when they were about to level up, since I think most of the Espers provided stat gains. Made sure the physical folks were getting strength increases, and my main spellcasters were getting magic increases. It was definitely fun towards the end of the game to have someone be able to do several thousand damage with just the basic fire spell It did leave Gogo and Umaro lagging behind though, since neither can equip Espers. I'll do another replay of VI one of these days. It is one of those games I played enough in my youth though, that I can just close my eyes and see almost every part of it in my head.

Persona 3: Dancing in Moonlight
Or at least I finished all the social links, etc. Not dedicated enough to get all the trophies, etc.

Xenoblade Definitive Edition and The Future Connected I also finished Xenoblade a while back but didn't do Future Connected. Someone else wanted the Switch and I didn't mind waiting to get around to it after over 100 hours with the main game.

It was nice to consider the story from a year out from the major events, but it left much to be desired. I'll discuss it with you whenever you finish it. I was pleased, but I wanted so much more. I guess I got spoiled with Torna.
By the way, Jenna Coleman's voice is so much deeper 10 years later. It through me for a loop right after completing the original story.

A few weeks ago I finished Mortal Kombat 11. By that I mean the Platinum since those games don't have an end. There is still plenty of stuff to do in the game. It looks like they really want you to spend as much time as possible in the game for some reason, this game is designed specifically to take a lot of your time, it reminds of Dead Or Alive Xtreme 3 in that regard. The Aftermath DLC was totally worth it. The game is outstanding, but the grinding can get overwhelming sometimes.

I finished up Trine 1 with some friends today. I'd played it before, but some friends (a married couple with 2 young kids) had been looking for something with both local and online multiplayer we could try remotely, so we both picked with the Trine 1-4 collection for Switch.
It worked out pretty well. We keep a Discord video chat going for it. They enjoy the puzzle platforming and their kids really like the magical fairy tale setting and will sit enraptured as we play, and ask a lot of fun questions about what is going on.
Good times, and we'll probably start Trine 2 next week.

Finished up the DS version of Dragon Quest 6 on the 3DS today.
I liked it. This was the end the Zenithian Trilogy, named after a floating city in the sky. It was much less tied together than the Erdrick Trilogy that make up Dragon Quest/Warrior 1-3. In this case, the floating city of Zenithia is present in all three, but the stories/worlds are much less tied together otherwise. It follow a similar timeline as DQ1-3 though, with DQ6 being the beginning of Zenithia's story, DQ4 being the middle, and DQ5 being the end.
It was fun. As with a lot of the other DQ games, it was very much an old school RPG, filled with old tropes. But the characters were likable, the designs cute, etc. I had a good time.
I might give this series a break for a bit though. This took 30 hours, the most I've spend on any of the Dragon Quest games so far, and I believer 7, 8, 9, and 11 all push that into the 50-100 hour range (with DQ10 being a Japan-only MMO). Not ready for the longer time commitment.

I finished Valkyria Chronicles again (not on new game plus, because I wanted a bit of a challenge). I absolutely love that game, and I think it is better than 4. 4 had better combat, but you can break the game so easily. The same can be said about 1 to a point, but I never really took advantage of it. The story is so damn good, and I absolutely love the canvass engine. I can only hope that they make a game about EW I so we can learn about their forefathers and their struggle.
I think I'm going to try Final Fantasy X for the first time now.

I finished up Shadow of the Tomb Raider tonight. I enjoyed it, as it was much in the same vein as its last two entries.

I finished up Shadow of the Tomb Raider tonight. I enjoyed it, as it was much in the same vein as its last two entries. I thought it was a bit more focused than the previous one and probably the better game of the new trilogy, provided you're playing the complete version with all the DLC dungeons. I've also beaten it recently.
