This video covers the topic better than I could:
Before I knew about the negative effects eating meat has on the environment and its resources, I used to eat meat all the time. Looking back now that I'm a vegetarian, I don't miss meat at all. Partially because I'm not very fond of the taste of meat, but mostly because I now know its very bad for the planet. I highly recommend watching this video, it's extremely informative and I can confirm that everything said in it is true because I've seen other documentaries about meat consumption and those documentaries said the exact same thing. It really makes you realize the amount of power the average 1st world citizen actually has to prevent climate change and deforestation.
The more you know!
My vision of a perfect planet has everyone living as a vegan, with perma-culture being ubiquitous globally and vast swaths of forest blanketing the earth. What does your ideal perfect planet look like?
Please share your thoughts.

I'm glad vegetarians exist, but meat is just too good. However, I think we should all try to reduce our meat consumption.

1) Animal protein contains certain amino acids that are not found in plant portiens. Sooner or later, you'll have a deficiency.
2) If you don't buy that pork sausage from the weekend Bunning's BBQ, somebody else will.
3) Maybe it's better to just lessen your intake of meat than to eat lots of it. And make sure they prey animal has a good life before being eaten. That's all you can do.

I'm a former vegetarian. You will miss meat one day, and get horrible cravings. I suppressed those cravings and food hasn't tasted the same since. My health is considerably worse and I was never able to get enough protein, and I've seen the same in a few others. You also have to wonder where protein and B12 supplements come from if not from animals.
There's a difference between factory farming and slaughter houses and traditional local farming and keeping your own chickens and pigs as well as fishing from clean lakes teeming with fish. I think each person should see how the sausage is made, literally, and make their own decision on whether to allow an animal to get killed for your food and resources.
Ideally a greener, more self-sustaining world with no animal testing or cruelty and no destruction of natural resources would be great but to achieve this, and wean everyone off their dependence of petrol and all the thousands of daily ingredients we take for granted would take such a substantial effort other important things would become eclipsed. I'm fine with just scaling back a lot of factory farms, reducing plastics, and newer ways of growing crops.

My vision of a perfect planet has everyone living as a vegan, with perma-culture being ubiquitous globally and vast swaths of forest blanketing the earth. What does your ideal perfect planet look like? My ideal perfect planet has: - All of the nuclear weapons under my peace-loving command
- Firework displays every night (may or may not be related to previous point)
- No Taxes
- No Politicians
- No Shoes, No Shirts
- No Problems

On topic: while I'm not a vegetarian, I've greatly reduced my consumption of meat and milk in the last two years, trading then for more vegetables and soy/coconut milk. It feels good and I'm slightly healthier, but you sure as hell can't just completely stop eating meat - the B12 deficiency is a serious thing, and you should at least take vitamin supplements to compensate for it.

Also, stratogustav, WTF? What does that video have to do with literally anything? That's what we do isn't it. Although we're not as nice as Snakes. So when you eat your ham and pepperoni, you know something bad went down for that to be on the table.

So when you eat your ham and pepperoni, you know something bad went down for that to be on the table. So you're saying you strangle your salami and then swallow it whole? That... That doesn't sound kosher.

Really? I've gone years without eating meat and I feel fine. Balder Nuts are an excellent alternative to meat. They're usually rich in iron and protein, and leave you feeling full unlike carbohydrate foods like potatoes and pasta. Soy is also an excellent source of protein. Most dairy products have a lot of protein, too (although I'm not sure dairy is a sustainable food...).

Fun Fact: No animal that humanity uses as a serious food source will ever go extinct.
