So you're saying you strangle your salami and then swallow it whole? That... That doesn't sound kosher. We are not all like you Dan. We can tell you like salami, sausage, and chorizo, not to mention cheese. I mean obviously you do like white sticky cheese. And the chuck is because you like choking on those. We get it. It is all Kool.

On topic: while I'm not a vegetarian, I've greatly reduced my consumption of meat and milk in the last two years, trading then for more vegetables and soy/coconut milk. It feels good and I'm slightly healthier, but you sure as hell can't just completely stop eating meat - the B12 deficiency is a serious thing, and you should at least take vitamin supplements to compensate for it. Really? I've gone years without eating meat and I feel fine. Balder Nuts are an excellent alternative to meat. They're usually rich in iron and protein, and leave you feeling full unlike carbohydrate foods like potatoes and pasta. Soy is also an excellent source of protein. Most dairy products have a lot of protein, too (although I'm not sure dairy is a sustainable food...). Mate, this is serious. B12 isn't found in any vegetables; all my friends who are vegan (four of them) take supplements to make up for it. I've also seen plenty of vegetarian/vegan blogs and videos talking about it, as I searched about this stuff when I changed my eating habits. Here is a post from a Harvard University blog about it. If you aren't eating any meat/dairy products, you should seriously consider looking for B12 supplements so you don't have problems in the future. scipioafricanus - I've always said we should be eating pandas regularly! It's the only way to save them!

Yeah, but if you're still eating eggs and dairy like Spirit Bomb , it's not a big deal.

To clarify: I'm not even vegetarian, I've just reduced my consumption of meat but still eat chicken/fish/eggs/dairy every few days, no big deal. And now scipioafricanus convinced me to eat pandas, and maybe whales. Sadly, people have already eaten all the dodos.

Yeah and the max amount of nuts you should be eating are a couple of handfuls a day which is maybe 8-16g of protein max. Any more will fatten you up.
Other things to keep in mind are that health foods like almond milk are not green and take a substantial amount of water to process, just like raw beef, and scientists are highly skeptical of the overall health benefits of soy.
One of my hardcore vegan friends hair started turning white at 21. You may feel fine now but there are long term effects such as poor bone density, anemia and various vitamin deficiencies. I definitely wouldn't recommend a strict vegetarian diet unless you know what you're getting yourself into, and you can eat tons of awful tasting stuff like lentils

Well, I'm proud of you, Spirit Bomb. I can respect a man that sticks to his convictions. Changing your diet is definitely not easy. I hope you stay healthy and get some kind of fulfillment out of it. Save the planet, brother.

I definitely wouldn't recommend a strict vegetarian diet unless you know what you're getting yourself into, and you can eat tons of awful tasting stuff like lentils In response to your first point, I actually am not doing any harm to myself by eating that much nuts, since, according to recent scientific studies (like the one I read in TIME magazine a year or so ago), the kind of fat found in nuts is very good for the body, contrary to what was previously believed. In response to your second point, yes, that's mostly true. Almond trees do require a lot of water. But if they were planted & cultivated in their native range, then it wouldn't be an issue and would be a form of perma-culture. American chestnuts would be a vastly superior choice for food than almonds, if they hadn't been devastated by the blight. Almond trees still are greener than beef though. In response to your third point, thanks for the heads up. I'll look into this issue.

It's the only way to save them! I just so happened to be in the supermarket today and I noticed that a brand of soy milk they had contained 20% the daily recommended amount of vitamin B12 per serving. I usually go for almond milk but maybe I should start drinking soy. Thought I'd let you know, since soy milk is a very popular product here in America (not sure about Brazil). I'm not sure if the B12 is added or if it's naturally found in soy, but this is nonetheless delightful news.
