My last name is pronounced ness and the NES is pronounced N.E.S. We have to have distinctions.

scipioafricanus Oh, you Sega fanboy you. Growing up I called the Super Nintendo the SNES, like one word. But these days everyone seems to pronounce each letter individually, so I find myself doing that, too. Always did it for the Nintendo, strangely enough.

I still call them Nintendo and Super Nintendo. The whole NES, SNES is millennials jargon.

You're a millennial, numb nuts. I like to think I barely made it through the line, but who knows. It's easy to find out. Just give me your date of birth, mother's maiden name, and your social security number and I'll let you know if you're a millennial or not.

I've heard it get called SNES in the 90s. Maybe it was a regional thing. For example I never heard the Nintendo 64 get called N64 until the PS3 was already out. For us it was just the 64. It's easy to find out. Just give me your date of birth, mother's maiden name, and your social security number and I'll let you know if you're a millennial or not. It sounds like you may need my debit and credit card number as well.

For Nintendo I either say "Nintendo" (when the topic is about consoles specifically and no further distinction is needed) or "Entertainment System" (when talking about gaming in general, where "Nintendo" can be misinterpreted as either the company or the console and the distinction is needed to avoid confusion) and for Super Nintendo I say "Super Nintendo", that is all.
