Imperial Khador , Do you know off hand if the Wii U has a cap on SD card memory? I know that is an easy Google search, but soft mods can change that. The Wii U itself only uses the SD slot for screen captures and video for some games like Smash Bros, although the Wii U Homebrew stuff is loaded off the SD. Mostly it is used for Wii-related featues, so obeys those limits. I believe it is officially 32GB on Fat32, but as long as you're formatting the card in Fat32, you can go much higher. I have a 256 GB micro SD in mine at the moment. It isn't necessary to go that high though. Wii U game backups run off the external hard drive, not the SD slot, and while Wii backups can run from the SD slot, it is a bit hit or miss as to whether a particular game will work, as I mentioned above. Still, if you wanted to load a large selection of GameCube games and Wiiware/Virtual Console stuff, a large card is handy. (I think I'll be putting in a 128 card and using the 256 for something else. I don't have a ton of GaneCube games I really wanted on there 😁)

Soo many games were promised for the WiiU that never made it including Yakuza 1&2 HD collection This happened, but only in Japan. Yakuza HD collection was also scheduled for a western release but was one of the many games that were promised that didn't make it.

It would have been nice to get those for the Wii U. That library is great, but quite limited, mine basically feels like a plug & play small collection.

But it's great how nintendo did a 360 and jumped back on the horse big time with the Swtch and not only bring all the games they promised to the switch but did much more unlike their efforts with the WiiU. the Switch is the only nintendo console since the Gamecube where fans don't seem to find the need to also own a Sony or Microsoft console along side their Nintendo.

Non game features of the Wii U: can you play a DVD movie on it and watch it from the tablet? Does it have a music player? Does it have stuff like Audible and Spotify?

It does not play video DVDs natively. I'm not sure if someone may have created a homebrew program to do this, as was done for the Wii. No for Audible and Spotify, as far as I am aware. Video streaming on it was limited to Netflix and Hulu (I think). I believe Netflix still works for it. Not sure about Hulu.

Audible is so ridiculously expensive. I prefer Play Books for the most part. Books are half the price there, sometimes less. The Wii U doesn't have either. It used to have Google Earth though. It was a big deal back then because you were able to walk the roads of London, Sidney, and Cape Town with your pad. One second you are in Buenos Aires, then you are in Helsinki, and then you are in Philadelphia, or Abu Dhabi. It was 2012 after all. You couldn't ask for more. Spotify was still a Swedish thing. The guy from Napster was barely bringing it to the States. I didn't get it until a few years later and it was still doing all that plus the Factor 5 apps too. From Factor 5 it had Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, Crunchyroll, YouTube, but I never really used them there.

YouTube, Amazon Prime, and Hulu were all on there officially. I know the Homebrew scene has added a ton in the last couple of years, so I'm sure much more is available.

I used to share my mum's account. Whenever she has 5 credits to spend, she always asks someone if they want a book. I have a few books, but my Audible keeps crashing on my phone. btw Is that Google Play books you meant? The WiiU tab's not that portable though.

Two years later, my brain keeps reminding me to buy a Wii U. I tempted to actually do it, but it would then result in it collecting dust like my other consoles.

The Wii is now collecting dust. I may send that over to my mother in laws in order to give him something to do when he visits there besides playing his Switch.

btw Is that Google Play books you meant? Yeah, it is the same thing. I use Audible too because some times Play Books doesn't have everything, but I prefer Play Books because they do not overcharge. It is not so much about the money, it is more about the principle, that Audible gets away with doubling their price for the Amazon brand alone.

This guy made an excellent case for owning the Wii U post-mortem: www.youtube.com/watch?v=YyB9E2zEFBAI actually bought it a year ago for his recommendations and ended up flubbing the mods and my eshop and being disappointed by the wording (I thought he was saying I could put my Gamecube games in by doing the mod but he just meant running ROMS). Did a factory reset a few weeks ago and found a whole bunch of great reasons on the eshop (there's like 30 TurboGrafx games on there as well as some great GBA titles). Of the physical library, so far for me it's only Lego City and Star Fox but I'm interested in Nintendo Land and Wooly World. It's actually cool to put something on the TV and play the virtual console games in handheld mode; my Wii U library doesn't exactly work the same way.

My brother called yesterday, and he told me that his son powered theirs on for the first time in ages. He couldn't believe that it said that we used ours frequently and asked if we got hacked. Nope. We still play games on it. Currently, my son and my wife are playing Super Mario 3D world. The Wii U is just fun. Most of the games are ported (except for Xenoblade Chronicles X...WHERE IS THE UPDATED PORT?), so it isn't worth running out and getting one if you have a Switch. However, the machine didn't suck like the Virtual Boy.
