I bought mine for 20 bucks, and I still haven't been bothered to even try it. I was wondering if I should just sell it, but then again what could I possibly get for it? 10 bucks? It's a cool trinket, but not very exciting when it comes to using it. Good call about skipping it. It was right next to some generic AT style console that used a Genesis style controller that had more games. Both were on a discount shelf, and no one seemed to care. How sad. It becomes quite obvious how little value the shitty mini consoles have when they rot on the discount shelf.

However I had managed to make it something very special with lots of modding. As of right is probably one of the best classic gaming systems anyone can ask for. That said, not everyone has the patience to do all of that, some people don't even know is possible. Add to that, out of the box, the face value is basically insignificant, the games don't even look alright.

It is nice that the Playstation Mini was easy to mod, but if someone wanted a system to mod for their PS1 collection, I'd probably recommend a PSTV these days. Easier for games with analog stick support too

Talking about Mini, the new PlayStation is a lot bigger than I thought. There is definitely nothing slim about that. The demands for power I feel are getting out of hand. Hopefully in a few years they can trim it a little. That's going to take some space. If I ever get one I was thinking the black one. I'm not too into this white color right now because everything else I have is black already. However who knows. It does match my fight stick, and that's like the most important thing, so I can see that working out if it supports it.

Lots of Vita and PSP games won't work on the PSTV due to licensing issues. (And a few because they feature sections impassible without some Vita-only features. You can sort of get the touch controls to work with a PS4 controller, but for something like Uncharted Golden Abyss that needs the Vita's light sensor, you're screwed).

I'm wondering if that is just a mockup extrapolated from the PS5 controller size or something. I haven't seen any reviwers with hands on the system yet, and the dev kits don't usually look like the final product

So do that mods make it work around that need? How does it do it? Does it remap the game? I know the Vita has a touchpad on the back, I don't know if the DS4's touchpad can replicate that. What does the Vita's light sensor do? The DS4 has a light for motion, I'm thinking maybe that's what you mean. I never had a Vita, so I don't know too much about it. They definitely look cool. In that case, the mods just allow a game that is locked out for a features-related reason to start up. The touchpad functions are part of the base PSTV setup, if you're using a PS4 controller. Touching with one finger, you're shown an icon on screen that you can move around and see where you're going to tap. If you touch with a second ringer, you're shown a different coloured icon that represents where you would tap on the back touch pad. So for some games like say the PS Vita version of Lumines, that just has some touch icons in the menus, but not the game itself, it is perfectly playable. (I know Final Fantasy X can be played without mods and features minimal use of this feature. There's an on-screen you can tap while walking around to use a healing item. So, you can access it with the Vita, or a PSTV and a DS4's touch pad, but not with a PSTV using a DS3 controller). LOL, I did misremember about the 'light sensor' on the back. In this case, it is just the Vita's camera, which of course can discern light sources, ambient light, etc. I've only encountered one game that uses it as a light sensor, but there may be others that use the camera. In Uncharted: Golden Abyss, there's a part of the game where Nathan Drake has to hold up a piece of paper to a bright light to reveal a secret message (or something similar). You actually have to hold the back of the Vita up to a bright light to solve the puzzle. (I remember this vividly because I had a friend playing Golden Abyss on a Vita while we were driving at night, and I had to pull over, and turn on the interior lights, so he could complete that puzzle and progress.) So if you were playing on a modded PSTV and muddling along with the not-great 'touchscreen' options on the DS4 controller, you'd still be stuck at that point unless you moved the game over to your Vita long enough to use its camera to solve the puzzle

It reveals a lot of things I didn't know about the Vita that I haven't seen on reviews. I know my friend has a modded Vita with a massive library, but I don't think his PSTV is modded. That really sucks about the game getting stuck at that point using that method. However that feature is cool, it reminds of Alien Isolation where you have to keep quiet in real life so the Alien doesn't find you in the game.

stratogustav He may have just not gotten around to it. Vita modding seems to have grown by leaps and bounds since these came out: www.amazon.com/Funturbo-Ultimate-Version-SD2Vita-Adapter/dp/B07F63FPT3/As you may know, the Vita memory cards were proprietary, and very expensive. The largest, a 64GB one released in Asia but compatible with all Vitas, regularly goes for $200-300 US. Unfortunately, it is also too small for a micro SD converter of some sort to be designed for that slot in the same way that adapters exist for the PSP. So the link above shows the neat solution. Current Vita modding with that adapter effectively turns your cartridge slot into a valid storage space, and that sort of adapter allows you to use existing micro SD cards with your Vita or PSTV. I currently have a 256GB micro SD card in mine. The Vita and the PSTV need to be modded separately, but once it is done, you can swap them freely. The PSTV actually just has a normal USB slot as well, so once modded it can use a normal USB thumb drive as a storage space, keeping the cartridge slot free. The only down-side about going that route is that if you're transferring your save files from one to the other, you are either depending on Sony's own PSN saves backup feature (always dubious with custom firmware, and only works with Vita games), or using your computer to transfer saves between the Vita and PSTV via an FTP program. I prefer just using the micro SD card, and adapter card and swapping it between devices The down side though, is that since modding got easier, PSTV's got more expensive. There were significantly fewer to be found than the Vita, as they were not super popular given their initially quite limited playable library. I bought mine for about $50 Canadian, and once picked up one for a friend who was playing Persona 4 Golden for $20 Canadian. Presently a PSTV goes for around $150 US or more. They are region free though, like the Vita itself, which is nice.

Imperial Khador I'll tell him about this. Thanks for the info. I know he didn't mod his Vita, he already bought it modded from Amazon, but I don't know what kind of mod it is. All I know is that he can get trophies into his account, so that means he can connect online at least for that, and also he has some kind of service where he can download games because they won't all fit at once.
